Got to talking about Disney movies with a friend a bit ago and this comparison came up. Both were wacky screwball animated movies that came out within about four months of each other and did a lot of spoofing typical animated kid's movie tropes while having a very loose approach to the fourth wall so feels appropriate to compare them.
I watched both pretty often as a kid but was always a lot more partial to Emperor's New Groove. Still inclined to say it now, but I've seen it semi-recently while I haven't seen Shrek since I was a kid so I don't really have the best idea as to how it's aged. Maybe should see it again sometime (and see the second one, I've only ever seen the first half of it and that's again been a long time), I dunno.

Shrek was entertaining but I give it to emperor's new Groove. I'm mobile, so I can't go into detail but new groove was the better one. Both were great though.

Emperor is an underrated movie but Shrek is in that Lion King/Beauty and the Beast level to me.

Shrek franchise had Jennifer Saunders. That puts it over to me.
