What are some trailers that either spoil the ending or important moments, or give away too much of the film? This TV spot for Superman 3 gives away a bit too much of the climax of the film

Didn't Justice League show Superman alive in trailers?

Didn't Justice League show Superman alive in trailers? Sort of. The final trailer framed a scene of Clark and Lois as a dream, only for it to be a post-resurrection scene in the final movie. the trailers for BVS, however, not only gave away the fact that Doomsday was in the movie, but Wonder Woman as well. I rarely give Snyder his due, but he was pissed that the movie's two major reveals were given away for free in the trailers and he was absolutely right to be.

Goldeneye’s trailer gave away 006 still being alive.

Rise of the Beasts showing Unicron could qualify.

So he would have preferred the box office be even lower? Though I guess maybe the first weekend may have been lower but the drop would not have been as severe as people would have been talking about the surprise.

The TV trailers for the horror film Quarantine, at least here in the UK, gave away the final moments of the film. For reasons beyond me.

Couple of 90s ones: trailer for “Sphere” one of those post Jurassic Park Michael Cricten adaptions. Well it's seemed every major discovery related to the Sphere was revealed in the trailer.
The first Tom Cruise Mission Impossible.. The trailer shows the climatic bit when Ethan jumps from the exploding helicopter onto the moving channel tunnel train.
Also Flubber... Trailer shows the movies villain shooting the flubber out of his ass.. Which was at the end of the film

This probably begins and ends with Soylent Green. "What is the secret of Soylent Green?" it asks, as it shows body bags on a conveyor belt in some sort of factory. Gee, I wonder what the secret could possibly be! It also just straight-up tells us the fate of several of the characters.

I kinda felt the Simpsons movie trailer showed far too much, not necessarily spoilers

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 trailer was a blatant offender of this. Not content with simply spoiling a "major twist" (Gwen Stacy of "The Night Gwen Stacy Died" falling? Spider-Man crying? Gee, I wonder what that could be about!), they just about gave up the whole movie in the trailers, to where the only part you couldn't predict was old Richard Parker's sky karate in the first ten minutes.

Though I guess maybe the first weekend may have been lower but the drop would not have been as severe as people would have been talking about the surprise. Well, I doubt anything could have made the box office any better, given the movie was a pile of dogshit, but the logic is sound. As much as Snyder was right to be pissed, this discussion between David Fincher and Brad Pitt comes to mind: Trailers that give away too much or misrepresent the final product have absolutely been made from a "We have no real faith that this movie is gonna draw an audience, so what's the best way we can protect our money?" Case in point: a movie where a depressed, pessimistic Superman fights an even more depressed, homicidal Batman. Edgelords will love it, but what about the casual audience? Let's put Wonder Woman front and centre and get people showing up opening weekend before the word-of-mouth absolutely kills the box office momentum.

MGSV trailers showed like *every* cutscene while teasing that there would be more when there wasn't. The title reveal trailer even begins basically giving away the big twist with the "What about him?" bit.

The second Knock at the Cabin trailer ruins the entire point of the movie.

One of the Spider-Man 3 trailers does give away Venom appearing. I think prior to that people assumed only the symbiote would be a problem and Sandman was the main villain, and Venom would be in the fourth film.
Spider-Man No Way Home included a shot of MJ kissing Peter from the end of the film, just before the spell took hold

The Star Trek 3 trailer, where they not only showed the Enterprise blowing up, but even made it a point to say “Join us on the final voyage of the Starship Enterprise.”
That’s like a monumental moment, almost as huge as Spock dying. You would think you wouldn’t reveal that in the trailer. I guess the studio didn’t give a shit because they had a Taco Bell promotion where they had glasses with scenes from the movie and it also showed the Enterprise blowing up, ON THE GLASS!
