We need more well liked character actors solving mysteries on television.
Who should have one of these shows?
My initial suggestion: Dan Aykroyd.
He’s always good when he delivered rapid fire technical explainations of things, that can be his hook, make him a Mythbusters type expert and have him use those skills to solve murders or whatnot?
Anyone else have a pitch?

I was so pissed off that Star Trek: Picard wasn't retired Captain Picard going around Starfleet solving mysteries, I refuse to watch it.

Ron Pearlman as a retired detective - now PI - with a crusty outer persona but a heart of gold deep down.

I was so pissed off that Star Trek: Picard wasn't retired Captain Picard going around Starfleet solving mysteries, I refuse to watch it. I enjoyed season 3, but getting a show about Picard solving some sort of mystery tying into his passion for archaeology would have been a lot better than what we got in season 1 or 2. Of course a swift kick to the nards would also have been better than what we got in season 1 or 2.

In the third season, {Spoiler}Worf is working as a private investigator for Starfleet Intelligence, investigating the theft of weapons from Section 31. I'd absolutely take a Detective Worf show.

I've been getting a lot of "how to 'fix' Jurassic World Dominion" videos recommended to me by the YouTube algorithm lately. My idea was to drop every character except Owen and Blue and, now, they solve mysteries. Also, Blue can talk but only Owen can hear him.

Dave Bautista. Used to be in a swat team until they were lured into an ambush, he was the only survivor but got shot in the leg. Now he has to learn to use his brain instead of brawn as he limps around trying to solve murders and find who set him up.
Spoiler: It was his best friend on the team who faked his own death.
Poker Face is an excellent example of the genre btw, heavily inspired by Columbo (but not exactly the same).

Someone once asked about characters from comedies moving to dramatic shows (Ed Asner's Lou Grant won awards as both a comedic character and in a drama) and vice versa, and I thought of one that would have worked in a mystery show...
Ron Glass, aka. retired detective Ron Harris from "Barney Miller", crossing the country, selling his latest novel, and giving his insight to local police who need help.

Animated show with Hulk Hogan and various other old timer wrestlers solving Scooby Do style mysteries.
Basically like that Mike Tyson cartoon. But with wrestlers.

Forrest Gump (as a private investigator) and Carl from Slingblade (as a high powered defense attorney) team up and solve a series of grizzly murders. They are assisted by a sexy robot voiced by Jennifer Tilly, an orangutan named "The Macedonian", and an ominous purple cloud voiced by Stone Cold Steve Austin. They travel around in a 1972 AMC Gremlin that is capable of bending time and dematerializing when all team members say the secret word.

Duke Silver: Murder And Sax. With his gigs starting to dry up, jazz saxophonist Duke Silver opens up a private detective agency. His cases often bring him into conflict with FBI agent Burt Macklin.

Michael Cera as adult Encyclopedia Brown.
Joel David Moore as Dr. Jekyll, the intelligent, CSI-influenced detective who uses science and logic to solve mysteries and David Harbour as Mr. Hyde, the hard-hitting mean side who roughs up people for information in THE CURIOUS CASES OF JEKYLL & HYDE.

I'd like to see Jim Ross (early 90s to early 2000s version) doing a detective or lawyer show. I'd love to see his "bah gawd" reactions when he figures out how the culprit was. I've always wanted him to do a narration of something like a Law & Order just to see his reactions to the twists and turns.

Let's give Nathan Fillion a detective show where he plays a quirky mystery writer who ends up teaming with the NYPD after a murderer starts using his books for their crimes, and makes a deal to shadow the detective on the case as the new female lead for his next series of novels. Maybe they can have a will-they-won't-they dynamic, and she has a tragic past - maybe a parent was murdered - that led to her becoming a detective, and solving that becomes one of their major focuses.
And then it ends after they solve the mystery of who killed her mom and they get married, instead of going 2-3 seasons too long and having his character go missing for months, only for him to return with amnesia of that time missing to add a new mystery.
We can call it "Fortress", or maybe "Palace".
