Vegas said they'd win a Cup in six years and...welp, they did. See, Arizona? Hockey CAN work in a desert!
Ok, offseason time, GO!
Will the front office changes in Pittsburgh and Toronto yield positive results?
Will the Blue Jackets' attempt to acquire decent defensemen be worth a damn this year?
Will the Devils get Timo Meier to sign as good a deal as they got Jesper Bratt to sign?
Will the Ottawa Senators FINALLY get a new owner?
Will the Arizona Coyotes continue to exist?
Will the Blackhawks ever have to face karma?
And, of course, will Phil Kessel participate in the July 4 Coney Island hot dog eating contest?
All this, and more, As the Bettman Turns.

Will the Arizona Coyotes continue to exist? Depends. Do they exist now? But seriously, genuine props to (L)VGK and their immense amount of success so far. Six straight winning seasons to start out, two Finals appearances and a cup win. Congrats to Vegas sports fans, hope they're enjoying it (because they'll soon be saddled with TWO of Oakland's leftovers in other sports. ) Also, Seattle Kraken looking similarly good so far. They'll be good to watch going forward.

Mentioned it yesterday, but it's been confirmed the Canucks have indeed bought out OEL's contract. The buyout will span 8 years.

I’ve done all of my draft prep. Last year I fell in love with Jiri Kulich and spent half the first round cursing my Sabres for passing on him at 16 only to fall to them at 28. Anyway…he went to the AHL as an 18 year old and led a conference finals team in goal scoring.
So…I’m pretty much a scout now. I think that’s how that works.
Anyway this year I love Dimitri Simashev. He’s been my top D for months. Now, ten days from the draft, he’s starting to pop up in top ten lists out of nowhere. I would take some solace in having hammered on this before anyone else…but we pick 13 and his momentum in the real scouting departments might make him unattainable there. Crossing my fingers for the Russian factor big time.

Crossing my fingers for the Russian factor big time. Simashev is by far the best LD in the draft, and was projected to fall due to the Russia situation but I don't think that's as much of a concern as it was at the start of the year. I still think he'll be there at 13. Defensively nobody on the left side is in his league. There's a lot of offensive PMDs, but nobody is playing responsible defense in a men's league except Simashev. If Reinbacher and Willander go top 10, you might get sniped by Vancouver or Arizona. But in that case, there should be an amazing forward there for you. Not what you need so much, but BPA value out the ass.

Will the Arizona Coyotes continue to exist? Depends. Do they exist now? I don't think the Coyotes relocate, at least for the short term. They're stuck in purgatory, which means they're stuck in Arizona. They'll likely spend 2023-24 at that sad college arena in Tempe but in the process, they will probably spend the next few weeks and months courting other cities in Arizona for the potential to set their roots. With a new owner of the Phoenix Suns, maybe their future home is the Footprint Center in Phoenix (formerly the America West Arena, US Airways Center, Talking Stick Resort Arena, etc.) Maybe they'll re-engage Scottsdale, as they have for years and years. Maybe it'll be Mesa. Who knows. But I don't see it being a relocation in the near future. The NHL is wedded to Arizona, and the Golden Knights have proven hockey can work in the southwest if there's a commitment from ownership on down. The only way they move is if a new owner swoops in to buy them with the plan to relocate them to Kansas City, Hartford, Quebec City, wherever.

Bring back the Hartford Whalers you hippies! I’m on boycott until they come back. Though if they ever put a team back in Hartford they almost certainly won’t be able to be called the Whalers.
Quebec Nordiques, Hartford Whalers, and Minnesota North Stars were some seriously cool names.

Trade some of these ugly ass jerseys like the Coyotes and give me those two back.

Looks like the hall of fame this year is the year of the goalie. Lundqvist, Vernon and Barrasso(finally!)
Seems like the committee decided to fix the goaltending under representation. But I'm not sold on Vernon in the hall

Need to get Vernon and Barrasso for my rookie collection now. Barrasso is a buck but Vernon is like $10-12.

The league is an issue, as always with shitty leadership and asshole owners (Jacobs). But hockey has bigger issues at play here. It's long been an old boys club of Canadian circles, and Russia could be argued as even more closed-minded than our society on this side of the ocean. But you see the stories about what black players have to deal with coming up, Asian players, anyone who looks any different or even advocates for anyone different. Hockey has a long way to go from top to bottom.

The only way they move is if a new owner swoops in to buy them with the plan to relocate them to Kansas City, Hartford, Quebec City, wherever. If the Footprint Center isn't renovated to accomodate both Hockey and Basketball, then the Yotes are just going to have the same problem as they did when they moved from Manitoba. Awful sightlines due to an arena that was only designed for the Suns. And they would be getting a lot less support. The market has been burned as badly as someone sunbathing in the middle of Phoenix all day, and they aren't going to support a team that for most of it's early existance choked in the first round, and now is renowned for feasting on bad contracts. The market might be damaged beyond repair.
Alex Meruelo needs to keep owning a professional sports team in Arizona in order to keep his casino license. Thats probably why he isn't going to sell up, and dude doesn't have the capital to buy the Suns, D-Backs or Cardinals, nor the funds to buy then build a stadium for Phoenix Rising, then pay an expansion fee to take them into the MLS. So he's probably going to keep what will become the Living Dead of the Big 4 Sports Leagues in order to keep that license.

It's a shame too, because the Coyotes have loaded up like crazy on draft picks. They already have Cooley and Geekie. They have two lottery picks this year, with four 3rd round picks. They have their 1st (which will surely be high), four 2nds, and three 3rds next draft. They've got the potential to be in a really good spot 3-5 years down the line. But A) I wouldn't blame the fanbase if they didn't support or B) they'll leave town just in time to be good and actually find their competitive spirit and wallet ala the St. Louis Rams. The league and ownerships have f***ed that market so badly, and other markets by denying them to keep that dumpster fire fed.

Stamkos made a good point about the warm-up jersey ban and why it's so tone deaf, from the CBC:
