April 17th, Penguins at the Islanders, that could be a play in game.

Nothing sums up the season better than smackdowns over Edmonton and Colorado being separated by a WTF loss to Chicago. What a ride.
This Wyatt Johnston is looking like he’s going to be something special.

So how we feeling about the moves made by your teams at the trade deadline? Not a fan of losing Guentzel, but I totally understand it as a hockey move. Pens don’t have the cap space to re-sign him for what he’ll get in free agency. So, trade him now for bodies and picks or let him walk at the end of an abysmal season and get nothing in return. It’s believed now that the Pens are tanking the season to try and win the draft lottery for no reason other than to piss Philly off Until Philadelphia suddenly decided to grab the controls and put their plane into a nosedive over Parts Unknown.

Yeah, wasn’t expecting that swerve. 🤣

That's actually really solid. Salt Lake seems like it would welcome Hockey and get behind them.

Not really going to blame their fans. They won a total of TWO series in their nearly 30 years in the desert. They were used by multiple owners who were trying to use the franchise to grow their other real estate ventures, and I think two of them have been indicted for fraud at some point.

I remember when the Coyotes were moving to Scottsdale. Then Southern Ontario. Then possibly back to Winnipeg. Then to Tempe.
So you'll excuse me if I have my reservations about them moving to a 34-year-old arena that needs to be renovated to accommodate hockey.

So apparently if Arizona gets a new arena built within the next five years, the Coyotes will return as an expansion team. The current owner was looking to bid for some land opening up right outside Phoenix, but the league didn't want to wait anymore.
Meantime, the last Devils game is tonight, and I can't say I'm not kind of happy to get off this Mr. Toad's Wild Ride of a season. Sucks to see it end now, but too many injuries, too many young guys having to step up more than they initially wanted them to, and most of all not enough goaltending until late in the year...so the upside is that they should be able to address most of that and get back on track to contending next season. Heal up, Jack Hughes, pleeeeeeeease heal up.

Their advanced stats (when healthy) still put them in the top 6 in the east. What Washington and Pittsburgh are doing analytically is an outlier. Kinda absurd Washington could make the playoffs while not being in the top 16 in an major stat except the standings. Hockey is a cruel game

Kinda absurd Washington could make the playoffs while not being in the top 16 in an major stat except the standings. Hockey is a cruel game I can't count the number of games before the trade deadline where the Devils were pulling in high percentages on the "Deserves to Win-o-Meter", where they created a bunch more high-danger chances than the opposition, etc., but where they'd give up a few juicy turnovers and because of the goaltending they'd all end up in the back of the net. I still think their offense could've been better in a lot of situations, not enough variation in their attack to get defenses to move around more in a lot of games, but their overall attack was the right idea, they just didn't have the horses in net to make it work. That's going to be Priority 1 this offseason, along with a new full-time coach.

Congratulations to the Islanders they are in the playoffs. They will probably play the Hurricanes bring them on, this is hockey, just get in the playoffs anything can happen.
One thing the Islanders will benefit from is no more shot outs, games will be decided in 5 on 5 overtimes.

Will be interesting to see how it goes, the presumptive owner (Utah Jazz owner Ryan Smith) seems to want to make it work in Utah. With the reports that the Coyotes haven’t even been paying the hotel bills for the team, I can’t imagine Alex Meruelo meeting the requirements to get the team back under his ownership. Dude just seems incredibly incompetent from what I’ve read about him.

You know there is a chance though very remote, the Flyers are going to need another help to get that final wild card spot, but could we have Rangers / Flyers 1st round series at the same time we have Knicks / 76ers first round series. Has that ever happened before between two sports cities in the NHL and NBA?

It counts when the Caps get the puck in the goal after the whistle against Dallas, but not when the Flyers do it against the Caps 😒

The fact that the league left the door open to almost immediately go back to Phoenix is the most blatant incompetence in all of sport. They've been unsellable in the desert for the last 15 years, bouncing around, being a laughingstock, and the second they move the team Bettman includes a way to undo the thing that is wildly overdue.
Also, the NHL opening things up to 33 (and therefore inevitably 34) teams just kinda points to NHL loving the Subway franchise yourself into profit business plan. The most money they make is in expansion, but when does it stop being a good thing? I'd say the league size is perfect right now. NHL owners would say keep going until the checks stop clearing.
