How often has this happened where a player that is definitely going into the hall of fame retires/leaves the team and is immediately replaced with another player that also goes on to have a Hall of Fame career?
The only example that I can come up with is Joe Montana being replaced by Steve Young. There are probably others but I’d imagine that this is rare.
Any sport, any position.

Favre and Rogers
…
I guess Rogers could like…kill someone and that won’t happen…but also probably still would

The jury is still out but Adrian Peterson - Dalvin Cook could be one, maybe.
Did the Chargers go from Brees to Rivers directly? Or was there a year in between I can't remember
To me the most obvious basketball one is David Robinson - Tim Duncan but I'm assuming I'm missing something from the Celtic/Laker teams of history but those are almost cheating

New York Yankees catcher Bill Dickey was succeeded by Yogi Berra. He even coached Berra on how to be a better catcher after he retired.
Not only are both Hall of Famers, but they're the only Yankees to share a number that was retired for both players.

not a player, but broadcaster wise, Harry Caray being replaced on the radio with Pat Hughes for Cubs games. Both are hall of famers.

Liverpool replaced one of their greatest ever legends (Kevin Keegan) with another (Kenny Dalglish). Same position, same shirt number.
Then there was the Manchester United number 7s. Cantona followed by Beckham followed by Cristiano Ronaldo

Not players but the Steelers went from HOF coach Chuck Noll to HOF coach Bill Cowher, to future HOF coach Mike Tomlin
