"A.D.I.D.A.S." by Korn has a radio-friendly version that replaces "f***ing" with "humping."

"Guilty Conscience" was three minutes of bleeps. This is what I was going to post. It immediately popped into my mind, thank you TRL. Actually, the censored of "Guilty Conscience" is a re-recorded version with different lyrics.

I found this out a while back, but in the 90s, Alvin & the Chipmunks did a cover of "Ice Ice Baby" by Vanilla Ice.Considering it's a song about dealing drugs, a lot of lyrics had to be changed to keep it kid friendly. The funny thing, though, is that they kept in the line "Shay with the gauge and Vanilla with the 9", which refers to a 12 gauge shotgun and a 9mm pistol, respectively.

There's also the radio edits where *mysteriously* the rap verse is edited out.
TLC "Waterfalls" DeeLite "Groove is in the Heart" Janet and Luther "The Best things in Life Are Free"
So hardly sudden explosions of f bombs, but they and others, you get to that point and just... nothing.

One version of the video for Gay Bar by Electric Six got censored so ahrd you have to wonder why they bothered releasing it in the first place, with even vaguely rude words and tersm being censored with a whipping sound. Of note is the line "Let's start a war! Start a nuclear war! At the gay bar!" which turned into "Let's * WHIP * ! * WHIP * * WHIP * ! At the gay bar! " which, ironically, only made it sound way ruder.
Similarly, when Vevo released the video for Bloodhound Gang's Fire Water Burn, all the swearing was either silenced or replaced with donkey noises. And yes, that does mean that the most famous line from the song turned into "We don't need no water let the mother-HEE-HAW burn. Burn, mother-HEE-HAW. Burn". Again, why even bother? And I can't help but feel like this particular choice of censorship was the band actively taking the piss by trying to make it as obnoxious as possible in order to highlight the absurdity of it.
Also, it's a minor one but I remember not too long ago, when Road Dogg made an appearance on WWE programming, his music turned into "OOOHHH YOU DIDN'T KNNOOOOOWWW?! YO BETTER CALL SOMEBODAAAYYYYY!" despite the fact that WWE wrestlers do occasionally say "ass" on the show and as far as I'm aware, even in American English, it's not considered so offensive that it's inappropriate for PG-13 programming.

S&M by Rihanna got a radio edit over here called "Come On" which may as well have been called "why bother?"

The radio version Stero Hearts is f***ing terrible. Just Adam Levine doing the chorus for 2 min.

Pink’s ‘Just Like A Pill’ got a weird but funny edit on daytime showings here in the UK
The lyrics ‘I can’t stay on your life support, there’s a shortage in the switch, I can’t stay on your morphine cause it’s making me itch. I said I tried to call the nurse again but she’s being a little bitch’ got changed to ‘I can’t stay on your life support, there’s a shortage in the switch, I can’t stay on your life support cause it’s making me itch. I said I tried to call the nurse again but she’s being a little switch’

On UK radio, Stan has its middle two verses cut, meaning that Em's final verse is completely nonsensical.

I don't have much to contribute other than I immediately thought of when Krusty the Clown had the Red Hot Chilipeppers perform for him.

I’m not sure why this song needs a “clean” version since the original has no profanity or sexual content. Apparently it exists in an alternate universe in which “flask” and “sober” are considered obscene.

I still swear I heard a version of Tubthumping (the song you hear in hell) that replaced "pissing" with the nonsense word "sissing".

I didn't bring that one up, because they didn't censor it AT ALL, which makes it even funnier. All the stuff about "pelvic thrusts" and "voyeuristic intentions"? Completely unedited.

Here is my first real contribution to the thread. I remember in eighth grade someone gave me a copy of the "Next Friday" soundtrack. It turned out it was the clean version, though. Anyway, I listened to "Chin Check" by N.W.A. (really, it was just Dre, Cube, Ren, and had Snoop in there for some reason). I could understand they removed the home invasion introduction to the song with the woman calling emergency services, but the rest of the song was mostly censored that it made me question why it was included to begin with. It could have just been removed from the clean version entirely. There's also the radio edits where *mysteriously* the rap verse is edited out. TLC "Waterfalls" DeeLite "Groove is in the Heart" Janet and Luther "The Best things in Life Are Free" So hardly sudden explosions of f bombs, but they and others, you get to that point and just... nothing. What I found even more ridiculous is hearing "The Way You Move" by Outkast (or just Big Boi, because that double-album was really more a set of solo albums by Big Boi and Andre 3000) on non-hip-hop stations. It's mostly an instrumental during the points of Big Boi's verses and then you get to Sleepy Brown's verse and it's there.

When I finally heard the unedited version of Dr. Dre's "Dre Day", I was surprised by what wasnt in the edited video version, there's the whole "we have your record company surrounded" part before Snoop's verse, as well as an outro which is basically Dre insulting Easy E, Tim Dog, and Luther Campbell, neither of which are in the Mtv edit of the song obviously. On a non-rap example, at least one radio station alters Bush's Everything Zen so the line "find my a******* brother" has the offending word played backwards (and ends up sounding more like a distorted voice saying "psycho" as a result).

There's a censored version of "Teenage Dirtbag" by Wheatus that didn't censor "dick" but did censor "gun". Thank you. I have been listening to that song for ages and simply could NOT figure out what that word was supposed to be. Poetically the missing word should have rhymed with dick but I couldn’t find a word that fit (stick? clique?). I guess it makes sense to not want to bring a gun to school. But I agree that they should have cut dick as well.
