I would not say I’m hip to pop culture. I don’t care about celebrity gossip, most Top 40 music just isn’t for me, and I don’t have the time/energy required to keep up with my hobbies. I’m told by a co-worker that D&D is likely to come out with a 6th edition and I’ve gone so long without playing that I’ve yet to try 4th or 5th. There’s shows I like that I haven’t kept up with. So on and so forth.
Another hobby I kind of faded on is gaming. As a result, I completely missed From Software’s output. I was finally introduced to it and purchased a couple games. The thing is that as much fun as I’ve had with Dark Souls Remastered, because I’m playing an old game it’s not like there’s anyone currently also playing it for me to talk to about it. I will say that for all the reputations for being really hard, I guess if you have a gaming history that goes back to the Coleco Telstar then hard games is a relative thing. It’s challenging, but not frustratingly so. Only two bosses so far took more than two tries (Stray Demon and the smurfing, cheap-ass Bed of Chaos), though crafting the fury sword is something of a cheat code.
Anyways, what have any of you gotten in on really late?

Nothing. I'm never in on anything at all.
I feel like I'm constantly waiting for an invitation that nobody's ever going to give to me.

To be fair, a lot of people checked out on 4th Edition because of WOTC-related stupidity.

I read Bleeding Cool and Collider and morbidly peek at YouTube Trending occasionally, so that’s my vague awareness of what the young whippersnappers are into. Other than that I couldn’t care less, I enjoy whatever weird thing fascinates me and I don’t pay attention to what the buzz is.

Some kids showed me some k-pop thing (not bts, forgot the name) but I was amazed at how sick the beats were and how overall hard the music went.
The Sony Spider-Man games are about the only games I see through my peripheral that make me miss gaming.

To be fair, a lot of people checked out on 4th Edition because of WOTC-related stupidity. Yeah most people noped out of four pretty early It is not well regarded by most players and created their own competition in Pathfinder which was basically 3.55 5th did a lot to fix the brand including making it way easier to pick up and play then ever.

I'm too old to care what's popular anymore.

I'm too old to care what's popular anymore. Pretty much this. If it applies to my interest, I might check it out, but by and large I don't keep up with anything that doesn't interest me. I hit a peak for movies, games, music, and whatnot...and I can always revisit any of that if I find myself craving any of those. And if I do decide to check something new out, I usually look for something even older. Music especially is almost exclusively stuff earlier than the 90's when I want something fresh. Only area where this is an issue is technology, which unfortunately constantly feels like something that is expected out of you even if you don't want to be. I really don't feel like I need to be the target audience for new stuff. I'm content. And as I get old, the only new stuff I want is medical advances.

You'll always find someone to talk to about Dark Souls about online. R/patientgamers is good when you're years behind.
I'm mostly behind on things. Especially music. Except tiktok, if something has weird and/or very British style humour I seem to be shown them before they get big followings. This is of course 99% useless because there's no irl benefit in the way say seeing a band before they get famous would have.

That TikTok npc shit makes me depressed on an indescribable, unfathomable level.

To be fair, a lot of people checked out on 4th Edition because of WOTC-related stupidity. I kind of like 4th edition, definitely more than I like 3.5, and even I'll freely say WOTC (and maybe moreso Hasbro) made a lot of stupid mistakes that created bad blood. 5th edition is definitely the product of lessons learned.

When I was a teen I never cared much for whatever was popular. Just happened my senior year in high school a few bands I had been listening to for a bit became huge.
And now 30+ years later..... I can't really think of any top 40 radio hit I know from the past 15 years maybe even 20. Often I will see actors/actresses mentioned on here and have no clue who they are.
Add in been told often "Redacted you were an old man before you could drive."
Not sure if it is that or just my tastes in most stuff runs a bit odd.

My wife keeps up on such things and our kids and I just don’t. She was trying to explain some celebrity gossip the other day and our youngest responds by asking her why she is explaining it when none of us gave a damn about it.

I kinda bounce back and forth on "stuff". Most of the times I care less.
