Harry Potter was absolutely insufferable in the Order of the Phoenix book. Really, the true fantasy is that he had any friends left by the end of it. At first you understand, he went through some heavy shit at the end of the previous book and that is going to affect his outlook on things. However, it quickly becomes tiring when Rowling's idea of character depth is just to make Harry an ass who screams at everyone 24/7 and then gets mad at someone for crying about their dead boyfriend.

Gambit was killed as a major figure in comics after they explained away every shred of mystery he had. If you're going to flesh out the backstory of a popular man of mystery, you better bring your A-list talent to do it. This honestly is an issue in X-Men in general, moreso than most comics, which already have this issue to a degree. Gambit, Wolverine, Magneto, arguably Storm, Rogue, etc. Feels like every time they try to tell us more, it's just making the characters less interesting. Mystique is sort of a mixed bag in that I do think her status as Terrible Parent Figure makes her more interesting, but knowing how they wussed out with her on stuff like not having her father Rogue with Destiny does kind of kill some of the interest. She's a goddamn shapeshifter, after all, there's really no compelling reason they couldn't have done that, just Marvel's editorial team wussing out. they also can't make up their mind about whether or not she's supposed to be a tragic figure or an irredeemable monster, so you have stories telling us to feel sorry for someone whose done some of the very worst things of any X-men villain.

They've done the same with Sabretooth. Never mind he's massacred and slaughtered thousands of people and in some cases, implied to have eaten them.

Any attempt to explain the backstories of the Street Fighter characters, Ryu in particular, just further makes the entire storyline more of a hot mess.

People here gave me shit when I spitballed that it would line up better with the original Magneto to reveal in a future film that he was involved in a ethnic cleansing as the bad guy.

Im on to stranger things series 3 and they seemed to have suddenly made Hopper and Joyce somewhat a comedy couple almost,it is so odd to see and i found it weird after all thats happened to them that they have suddenly decided to act a bit silly even when there is still dangeours things happening. In fairness, most that was Hopper going through fits of Kevin Owens style frustration with everything rather than him and Joyce not thinking the situation was serious. They seem to realize Murray was better doing those comedic bits and Hopper went back to seriousness while trapped in the gulag.

The only ones who have kept it somewhat consistent are King of Fighters and Tekken.

I honestly can't think of any character I liked more when they decide to explain every goddamn thing about them. I was trying for a while to think of any, and the only one I could think of was Spike from Buffy. I liked the reveal that he used to be a complete loser, failed poet mummy's boy, spineless wimp of a man before he was turned into a vampire. Spike's flashback episodes were always fun to watch

They just never really did. I mean, I get it. Somebody has to be the grounded character, and that wound up being Ann.

Bernadette from the Big Bang theory. Became less mousy and shy, into mean spirited office bully at work. I think all the characters kind of went through a change where, when they are with these people they can grow and be themselves. People who don't actually watch the show and just complain about it, say the characters never changed when they all did, hugely. I think Bernadette changed for the better, but even at the time, I was bothered by Penny becoming an a drunk, played for laughs, which they never gave up on until they pivoted into she only married Leonard because she basically gave up saying no, which both characters just acknowledged. Lots of people were angry Penny was cool with being pregnant after saying she never wanted children, but people change, which was the entire arc of Sheldon especially, but everyone. Except Raj. They actually let him just die alone.

I loved the first season of "I Didn't Do It", by the second season you had a forced relationship, an antagonistic asshole for the gang and found out one of the funnier characters had a shitty background that made them the way they were that was just depressing.
Basically any show where they add an antagonist
Bizaardvark, to me sucked so much ass when they added dimensions to the characters in the second season-I'm not their target audience, though
