I honestly can't think of any character I liked more when they decide to explain every goddamn thing about them. This is why I don't like to get to know people better.

I generally find story modes in Fighting games to be mostly terrible... I mean Mortal Kombat has reset the timeline like 5 times now... The only ones who have kept it somewhat consistent are King of Fighters and Tekken. Even the last couple of Tekkens I've started checking out of the whole Mishima nonsense, ok, Kazuya and Heihachi are both evil there's a devil gene, Jin comes along and is fighting it... then there's some ancient evil and he's evil too or is he now?

April in Parks and Rec became much better when they did more with her then “miserable emo girl” Gerry and Donna as well. The reveal that Gerry is married to a blonde bombshell (played by Christie Brinkley), has three beautiful daughters and is the most beloved guy in his neighborhood in that Christmas episode is one of my favorite moments of that show.

I hate Marvel's push to make every character directly tied to a deity/cosmic force/universal totem/conspiracy over the past few decades. Can the Hulk just be a monster created by science? NO! All gamma irradiated heroes are specially special now with a special hulk deity and special hulk green doors and mcguffins!

All gamma irradiated heroes are specially special now with a special hulk deity and special hulk green doors and mcguffins! They tried that with Spider-Man pre-OMD too. Same with Firestorm over at DC. He wasn't just a superhero created by a scientific accident....NO! He was meant to be Earth's fire elemental and only as Martin Stein. Only Ronnie Raymond got in the way. Didn't help that the more changes OG Firestorm underwent, the more gritty and joyless he became.

Hell it annoyed me when all of Hulk's supporting cast got turned into hulks. It's hard to portray the loneliness of being the Unstoppable Rage monster when your girlfriend, your girlfriends dad, your best friend, your cousin, and like 12 other people are also Radioactive Rage monsters...

I also really liked the episode where Gerry retires and Leslie goes over to his house and ends up having breakfast. He can see she's feeling bad because she thinks he didn't get to accomplish everything he wanted in his career, so he shows her his numerous photo albums full of vacations, events etc and explains that being home at 5:15 so he didn't miss any moments with his family was all he needed. It was an incredibly sweet and underrated moment

the Xenomorphs. They work better that they are just a species that exists... not as a crazy human made AI created them... We don't need any lore for them... they're just a creepy alien. this also works for basically any slasher villain... the unknown is infinitely more terrifying than the known. Especially when you take into account that the Space jockey in the original Alien had been crashed on the moon for thousands of years. Basically contradicting that just to add some stupid russo twist. Prometheus and Covenant are solid proof of how Dan O'bannon was more responsible for Alien being great than ridley scott was (also further proof of how important writers are).

Ridley Scott remains a fantastic director in his twilight years, but even in his prime he was never a particularly strong creator of stories. Seeing him slowly disappear up his own ass in the last decade or so revisiting older movies has been a great shame.

I'd like to nominate the 2007 Halloween remake's attempt at explaining why Michael Meyers turned into a murderer.

Had to bump because I was watching my name is earl and I reminded me that something about the shows appeal kept disappearing every time they had a flashback episode.
It’s odd because everyone was still connected to each other, the “younger versions” of themselves had the older’s flanderized characteristics, or the backstory revealed something unlikable about them

I'm a firm believer that Marvel's The Sentry should have never been brought back after the initial miniseries happened.
