Austin Theory was f***ed the moment WWE realized that Grayson Waller is literally everything they wanted Austin Theory to be, but better.

Like literally as he was rising in NXT I felt like they were already de-emphasizing Theory and the longer this US title reign the more it felt like they had completely bottomed out on giving this guy a chance to improve in this current form.

He looks great in ring tbh. 2010's Rey was a disaster and it felt like he was on the verge of retirement. Whatever dark voodoo magic he got done to his knees seemed to turn his clock back 20 years.

I think what's next for Theory (or should be) is a non-title feud with LA Knight. The young chosen one vs The aging vet who was kicked out of WWE and had to claw his way back. Have them trade wins, have a rudder match, and go toe to toe on the mic all the way through. The final test for Theory let him sink or swim.

Theory's been repackaged like five times already, though.

Legitimately, it'd be like three solid repackagings for him in four years. Generic young heel that fills out stables (random pairing with Zelina Vega, after that being a guy for Seth Rollins) ➡️ doofy himbo in The Way in NXT ➡️ slightly less doofy selfie guy that Vince likes ➡️ completely non-doofy boring guy.

I think the role that Theory should play now in the WWE is to basically be a bitch. Just have him be the idiot and fall guy in a stable, dude was good at that in The Way.

The not having to bulk up factor absolutely has a lot to do with it. I haven’t been keeping up as much but I can tell Rey hasn’t been anywhere as much mostly because his crooked knees haven’t had to hold up a bunch of upper body muscle mass to keep Vince happy.

Theory either needs to go hit the indies to pick up some actual talent or make the New JOB Squad.

If they try to keep him around with minimal changes he's going to join that growing list of dudes that oozed potential but it never materialized for whatever reason. Oh well, that's why we use words like potential because 'it' ain't there yet.
