This has been confirmed by Prichard. They also considered a Scott Steiner v. Bret Hart main event as well. Bruce really wanted Scott to win the Rumble, with an impressive showing. I don't how he thought that would be a good idea. Scott was a tag guy who had only been in the company less then a month. Booking him in a Wrestlemania World Title Match would've been a total flop. Now Scott Steiner after being pushed as a legit singles guy for the previous year? Yeah sure. At that point though it would've been a completely ridiculous booking decision.

What in the world would even be a WRESTLEMANIA match between Hogan and Dustin at WM IX!? Plenty to get mad at Hulk about but this ain’t it. lol Hogan vs Dustin is a Monday night main event at best. Hogan vs Goldust could probably be a PPV match. The idea that Dustin in the height of his “midcard babyface because of who his dad is” phase would main-event Wrestlemania is truly crazy.

He might be talking about Wrestlemania VII.

The real shock here is that there's evidently still someone Dustin hasn't blocked on Twitter to report it.

It was probably no more than a ‘What about Dustin Rhodes? Nah, bad idea. Who else is on the list?’ type of idea.

Jeez, Scott Steiner vs Bret Hart in 1993? With the right build and no screwy booking that easily could have been a match talked about in the same vain as Savage/Steamboat, Michaels/Razor, etc. The Harts v Steiners tag match later that year, maybe Jan 94, is a total hidden gem. Scott even busts out the Screwdriver, in that company at that time...

Scott was hitting the Screwdriver, Dragon Suplex, TBone/suplexes no one knew about in America at the time, and spiking dudes with the Frankensteiner. WWF wasn’t ready for them. lol Absolutely brutalized the Beverly Brothers too. 😂

The real shock here is that there's evidently still someone Dustin hasn't blocked on Twitter to report it. Hulk Hogan blocked me and I have no idea why. I mentioned him twice, to say I was happy he was back in WWE and another I tagged him in reference to “coolest way to take off your shirt”. I guess he didn’t like it. I do like Hulk Hogan took just a moment out of his day to block me though.

I think Prichard may have talked about it more like in the 90/91 era, so earlier than WM IX

I don't how he thought that would be a good idea. Scott was a tag guy who had only been in the company less then a month. That was most of the point. This hot, young new guy comes in, wins the Rumble. Instead of, you can see who is winning the Rumble from November on out, which is what they've ran with for almost 30 years now, with some exceptions here and there, Cena's return springs to mind. Do something fresh with an incoming talent and in 93, there was no precedent for obvious winner obviously wins, the previous winners at that point were Studd, Duggan, Hogan and Flair.

I really don't blame Hogan for having no interest in working with Dustin Rhodes.
Hell, the entire idea just sounds like one big rib.

This idea would only work if Dustin together with his father Dusty Rhodes were badass heels, throwing Hogan beatings in the weeks leading up to it. This ways we could see Hogan lighting up Dusty too.
