People pitch all kinds of shit, honestly, doesn't mean it was necessarily considered seriously.

I’ve heard Bruce talk about this on Something To Wrestle With to but considering WCW gave Rhodes a Us title run in January no way he would’ve jumped

At this stage in his WWF career, Hogan wasn't going to work with anyone who wasn't a monster. They're lucky enough he agreed to the match with Money Inc.
Could Dustin have fit in that role? Maybe. But I just imagine some kind of Dungeon of Doom style of character.

This has been confirmed by Prichard. They also considered a Scott Steiner v. Bret Hart main event as well. Bruce really wanted Scott to win the Rumble, with an impressive showing.

Scott I could see potentially working...It takes me looking back to remember just how freakin big and insanely athletic he was I just can't for the life of me think of what Dustin would have done as a heel in this period as a foil to Hogan... I would certainly guess they would want to deviate from the blue collar and or Natural but I also don't think Bruce and Vince could have kept from taking petty jabs at Dusty either

It's not like WWF was doing huge elaborate storylines then, it wouldn't take much to get Dustin into heel mode. Basically just do what Cody is doing now, "My dad never won the WWF title or wrestled you, therefore I am awesome" and away you go, he says it to Hogan and he's a heel.

I could see this working if Hogan tries to mentor Dustin, and Dustin ditches him eventually, Tommy Gunn in Rocky 5 style. Hogan had many successful feuds with former friends who betrayed him, but this would be a new slant on it. The issue, of course, is Hogan would likely feel this would make him seem old.

If he doesn’t like Hogan, why does he care for him at all?

Jeez, Scott Steiner vs Bret Hart in 1993? With the right build and no screwy booking that easily could have been a match talked about in the same vain as Savage/Steamboat, Michaels/Razor, etc.

What in the world would even be a WRESTLEMANIA match between Hogan and Dustin at WM IX!?
Plenty to get mad at Hulk about but this ain’t it. lol

I dunno, it didn't seem like it would work if it's just plain Dustin Rhodes vs. Hulk Hogan.
Also he was in WCW at the time as U.S Champion, unless his contract was getting ready to expire.

By WM9, Hogan wasn't much bigger than Dustin.

It was probably something that got pitched late the year before. They used to plan much more in advance. I honestly think Dustin would have been more interesting than Money Inc. and a title win that went nowhere.

Sounds about right from Hogan. Dustin wasn't a big monster heal. That's what Hogan was always looking for, that was his typical fued.

Dustin was only two years removed from looking like a naive newb against Ted DiBiase and would have needed a ridiculous amount of buildup, at least six months' worth after jumping, to be taken even half-seriously against Hogan in 1993. I'm guessing this was just unfocused spitballing, nothing more.
I also wonder when this alleged pitch conversation with Hogan would have taken place. Hogan didn't return to TV until late February. They wouldn't have had time to bring Dustin in and heat him up enough to sell a WrestleMania match unless they were talking with Hogan about possible programs while he was away in '92.

Dustin was in WCW and US Champion at the time of Wrestlemania IX so I don't even know how them having a match would even be a possibility or why someone would suggest it to begin with. I also don't know what other Wrestlemania they could've had a match as by the time Dustin came in as Goldust, Hogan was in WCW.
Only thing I can think of is someone that was in creative at the time was ribbing Dustin years later and telling him that they wanted him to work Hogan but Hulk refused because of the buggy whip arm thing. Dustin I guess not remembering where he was and what he was doing at the time believed it even though it couldn't have possibly happened.
