So John is doing a bunch of make a wish at each venue that Smackdown will be at. I’m sure SAG doesn’t want him appearing while the strike is going on but with the make a wish stuff going on I doubt they will complain.
Also great timing for that Fox renewal.
Bottom line for me though is that Cena always finds time for Make a Wish during this. He’s done the most make a wish ever, I think he’s doubled the second place person. What a great ambassador for the company and make a wish. TY John

They dont have their own union and SAG doesnt want them I guess. Either way its non union work. So as long as Cena doesnt promote anything SAG related he is good. SAG would be happy to have them, but it would ultimately be up to wrestling show producers to register their productions under a SAG contract and start being subjected to a whole lot more regulations. They're never going to do that willingly, or allow their performers to be referred to as "actors"... That hasnt historically been the case. SAG used to very much be of the opinion that wrestlers were not actors and could only join if they did an actual non wrestling acting job. Did that change?

Why would SAG care what he does in WWE? SAG don't cover wrestlers, Wrestling has no union.

It did, yeah, like I want to say a few years ago, Lea Thompson and some other actors became interested in wrestlers' experiences, especially with stuff like an interview Bayley did where the interviewer was appalled at how the wrestlers' travel is handled, with them basically thrown to the wolves and given no financial assistance or logistical help with their travel within the continental United States. WWE does provide tour busses in overseas trips, but that's about it. There were other factors, too, but yeah, there is interest among at least some guild members.

It only hit me now but is Cena now available for the next few months because of the strike? Like... he no longer has anything going on, and won't be filming anything that'd put him at risk of injury and the strike itself has no end in sight so... that's definitely part of it at least right?

Definately. If there were filming going on, no way would he spend 2-3 months of his time wrestling during what is usually a down period for the 'E. He would have waited until Summerslam or Mania to come back.

Being back with the WWE is also a good way to promote his new Hulu movie indirectly. It gives him more exposure while Hulu can run ads during commercial breaks.

Being a part of the SAG strike and still appearing on TV weekly is the ultimate loophole.
