It's already been announced on July 2, 2023, but Gundam SEED Freedom, the long-awaited followup to Gundam SEED Destiny, will be released in Japan on 24 January 2024. It's written by series director Mitsuo Fukuda and Liu Goto, based on the many earlier screenplays by Fukuda's late wife, Chiaki Morosawa, who died in 2016.
Most of the cast from SEED and SEED Destiny will reprise their roles, except for Naomi Shindo; Nanako Mori is Cagalli's new voice. Houko Kuwashima (Flay Allster, Natarle, Stella Loussier) voices a new character, Agnes Giebenrath, a ZAFT pilot who is part of Kira's faction; given the fate of Kuwashima's characters in SEED and SEED Destiny, will it break the streak of having her characters killed off?

I am looking forward to it. Yes, SEED and Destiny, especially Destiny, have a lot of issues, but this has been a long time coming, and I'm curious to see it finally come to fruition.

Honestly, I have mixed feelings on this...mostly on the good side.
One one hand, It's nice to see the Cosmic Era have their grand finale after years of (understandable) delay. And it was one of the first Gundam shows I did watch (alongside the 0079 series on Toonami), so It's hopeful to see how things go.
On the other, having re-watched SEED & Destiny, I can say that while SEED was pretty decent, Destiny on the other hand...well...it started off good, but then takes a massive nosedive in writing quality, with many flaws (not giving Shinn the development that he needed, the Perspective Flip from Ep. 39 onward coming out of nowhere and being wasted, a anticlimactic ending (that was only remedied in the compilation films), among others).
I do hope the film delivers well, and I'm hoping it will do so.
(On a side note, when I re-watched the series, I watched both English dubs...and I can say the Original Ocean Group dub still (mostly) holds up, while the NYAV Post dub for the HD remaster just felt lifeless, despite the amount of good VA talent there. That, and I read a good Fix Fic of Destiny recently that also got me hyped for the film, strangely enough.)

If nothing else, I hope this has some good mecha designs for the model kits. Though I've never really been the biggest fan of the Cosmic Era's mobile suits compared to the UC and some of the other AU's. Though as far as the quality of this show goes, well, they have a really low bar to clear with being better than Seed Destiny.
