That’s honestly good to hear. It seemed to mostly be a WWE thing, and I admittedly haven’t kept up with WWE closely in the last few years. Some fans kept trying to start them at All Out but it was barely audible and got shouted down every time. I was in that crowd, and was honestly surprised at the extent to which Punk had lost the Chicago crowd. Most of the people who were trying to start the Punk chants during the Bucks match were more Cornette fans who were generally anti-AEW, than actual Punk fans. I actually overheard the following exchange, which I think captures the overall attitude in the building on Sunday: - Lone dude in a Cornette t-shirt tries to start a "CM Punk" chant. - He gets overpowered by people starting a "Let's go Young Bucks" chant. -Dejected, the Cornette dude screams out "what the hell happened to you, Chicago?" - A dude responds "we just don't like being represented by a bitch," which draws loud cheers from the whole section. I mentioned this in the actual scrum thread a little bit ago, but I think Chicago loved CM Punk so much for so many years because he was the flagbearer for the hard working Midwesterner trying to stick it to the proverbial man. In this latest AEW run, CM Punk became "the man." And that killed a lot of his allure.

Also a Cornette guy going to an AEW show to bitch has the worst "why would they come just to boo us?" Energy

Also a Cornette guy going to an AEW show to bitch has the worst "why would they come just to boo us?" Energy It's genuinely fascinating. I've been to 4 AEW live shows now, and every single time there's been at least a handful of people wearing this shirt: who are seemingly there for no reason other than to loudly complain about what they are watching. I guess, to a certain extent, I understand hatewatching something on TV, but actually spending a substantial amount of money on something you dislike is such weird behavior to me. And you want to talk about Punk's legacy? I am certain that he never would have wanted part of his legacy to be the "Cult of Cornette"'s favorite wrestler, that's for sure. But here we are.

It ties back to the parasocial relationship thing that Punk's ironically brought up sometimes. People go and boo AEW because they want to go back to Twitter and tag Cornette in hopes of his wife (because I doubt it's actually him running that twitter) responding.

I wonder if it ever makes Cornette himself pause when he realizes his audience is almost 1:1 with that of a former President he despises. I don't think I'd be entirely cool with it even if I was the biggest grifter in the world

And to bring it back on topic, I have never exactly gotten the vibe that CM Punk is the sort of person who would want to be closely associated with that fanbase, either.

Z) Something more akin to Chris Benoit's legacy. No offense meant here but people really need to stop comparing his legacy to people that did things that were flat out reprehensible on a level far beyond his. I've seen these comparisons made in a few places and they're so off the mark. What Punk did was terrible, but getting in a fight with your boss and getting fired over it is nowhere near the level of someone who flat out murdered his family or commited some other horrible crime like Moolah or Snuka did. That's why I compared him to Graham. Like Punk, Graham was a trailblazer in the way wrestlers presented themselves and the product. And like Punk, he became a miserable asshole.

Punk's legacy will always be that he is a guy that always felt he had a fight he had to have.

Legacy-Wise: You either die the hero (2014) or live long enough to see yourself become the villain (2023). I Believe In Phil Brooks Harvey Dent.

I wasn't comparing Punk's action's to Benoit's. I was clearly talking about his future legacy over the next 10 years, i.e. the question asked of this entire thread. Punk is a volatile person and I can say with 100% certainty that there's no limit to what the end outcome might be for him over the next ten years. Anything from a Wrestlemania main eventer who turned things around and repaired bridges / mended fences... to someone who is best-remembered for losing his temper and doing something horrendous. Neither of those things have actually happened. They're the range of what his future could be, and I'm hoping for the best.
