1,104+ days as Universal Champion as of this thread.
523+ days as WWE Champion as of this thread.
455+ days as Intercontinental Champion as of this thread.
622 days as Smackdown Tag Team Champions.
420 days as Raw Women's Champion.
Triple H certainly loves booking very long title reigns. Here are 5 of the longest title reigns Hunter has booked during his tenure or continued to book under his run as head of creative.
Is this just too damn much for you or do you actually like these long reigns because it lifts the value of the belts?

It's my least favorite thing about WWE and being fair to HHH, they were going overboard with these long title reigns even before he "took over."

Gunther's is fine, but not a fan of the other long reigns.

I think there's been some positives, and I'll give them credit for avoiding knee-jerk reactions when booking.
That being said, I do feel like we're getting to a place where he could stand to move away from it. I guess with the tag belts, US title, and women's titles changing hands fairly recently, one could argue that they already are in the process of doing that.

I always say this about super long title reigns if the sole point is not to bring everyone beneath you up you damn sure have no reason to have some holding a title any longer than maybe 6 months at longest.
So it all comes down to booking....Gunther is the prime current example of a super long title reign being correctly handled everyone he has faced has come off better.
But also HHH clearly loves doing this shit in excess and the worst thing about this everyone knows the supposed end games for alot of these so it completely removes any tangible interest...you know Rhea is going to Mania as champion to face Becky and Roman is not losing his untill Mania at earliest and so everyone from now untill then is just like...who cares filler.

NOT EVERY REIGN NEEDS TO BE SOME NEVERENDING SLOG OF NOTHING.
Gunther’s is good though.

I do remember around here, people were absolutely sick and tired of that Bianca Raw title run though. She just made everyone look so weak post feud. It's a good thing Bianca and Iyo never had a 1 on 1 at least that I know of on the main roster.
The Usos title reign just bored us to death, BUT, they did do right and drop it at the right place, to the right guys, at Wrestlemania.

The Usos title reign just bored us to death, BUT, they did do right and drop it at the right place, to the right guys, at Wrestlemania. Bianca and IYO had I think like 2-3 1 on 1's on Raw and then the Backlash match. It funny enough is a nice insight into why Biancas reign was so bad and why the Backlash match where it was far more competitive is their best match. Those first matches were both when IYO was still relatively fresh off of breaking her foot and Bianca absoloutley steamrolled her for 95% of the time in those first matches but then get to Backlash and surprise when they let IYO flourish and it ends up being the best of their matches.

Shoot, I guess that run was soooooo long that completely slipped from my memory. I remember IYO worked the show, just not the opponent.

They’d bother me way more if Hunter didn’t have the eye for talent he does.
Seth, Roman, Bianca, Gunther and Sami/Kevin up until recently are folks I can trust to deliver exciting programs and defenses than, say, Billy Corgan giving the Ten Pound Ball of Gold to slow ass Tyrus because he gets views on angry talk shows.

If it was just one person having a superlong reign, then it would be good. Having four of them happening simultaneously makes the show feel incredibly stagnant because you know nothing's going to change for at least a few months.

Bit of column A, bit of Column B.
a long title reign can sometimes give a belt more merit if regularly defended, but when not being defended is just annoying. . Once Gunther does finally lose the belt I certainly wouldn't mind a few shorter reigns for a while.. That said I don't like it when belts are hot potatoed either.

Gunther's is fine, but not a fan of the other long reigns. Bianca's could have been better if they bothered to build a challenger. She held the belt for a year and I still can't remember one match she was in

Not too long ago, people largely despised the hot-potato championship reigns. Now, it's flop-flopped.
I mentioned it previously, but the main title being held onto for a long period of time makes the secondary title seem like the thing to go after. Problem is, we have a secondary title holder that's held it for long periods of time as well. And for a time, both IC and the US Title were being put over on commentary. Now, it's just the IC title whereas the US Title has fallen into the background.
Personally, I don't think championship reigns should go any longer than 18 months unless it has a serious purpose. Reigns' endless championship reign served it's purpose by Year 2, now it's just unnecessary. Gunther is on the short list of best in the world, and the booking has been solid, so I can rock with his run with the IC Title.
H is clearly an NWA fan and it shows. But he could stand to temper the extra-long reigns with a few short-term runs as well every now and again.

A title reign is as good as the story they're telling.
When a title is sparsely defended, the feuds are dull or the character isn't interesting, then I'm not going to be giving it high marks.
For my money, I still don't think anyone is going to top Hogan's first run with the belt. He took on everyone, had classic feuds and both won and lost the title in epic fashion. Bret was similar when he was champion in 1993 and 1994.
So when a guy is holding the title, hardly defending it and routinely has the same finish? Nah...that isn't my thing.

I'm a pretty firm advocate of the idea that there just plain isn't a such thing as a good year long title run. If you have one year long status quo in a show that gets 52 episodes a year, you're a shit writer. And Bianca, Roman, Bron, the Usos, Gunther, and ignoring the couple months he didn't have it Theory (since he never left the title scene for a second anyway and got like 40 shots in that time) all intersected doing that at the same damn time.

And it's funny to look back now too at the Punk and Styles title runs that were 365+. People called those super stale and here we are with a title reign that is triple their lengths.
