Turns out the payback PPV hurt then a lot and that they are doing the same numbers without Punk?

It's only one week but that's a pretty good number and if they can be around that for the rest of the year up against college football I think AEW would be happy.
If they can be getting similar numbers without Punk as they had with him, plus they've removed a ton of drama backstage, it can only be seen as a giant win for Tony Khan to have fired him.

Pretty nice bounceback considering it was going against Texas vs Alabama.

None of the Punk shows had college football against them. It's really not out of line with what Collision was doing throughout August. August 5, 2023: 417,000 August 12, 2023: 476,000 August 19, 2023: 482,000 August 26, 2023: 552,000 Average: 482,000

Thank God we have confirmation that Punk is not an appreciable enough draw in 2023 to be even remotely worth the headache he was causing. Hopefully we can all just move fully past that nonsense now.

You'd want it to be a bit higher but if that's the norm with college football, that's fine for now and it should go up once that's done. Definitely seems like WWE PPVs are going to be the biggest drain moving forward.

The very fact that they need to sell separate tickets for Collision and the fact that it's two hours makes me think it will never become Rampage-esque (and I love the show - I mean it becomes something that's nice to watch but you can follow the product without it).

I do believe this is a bit premature just as saying the company is on a downward trend or about to collapse due to ratings like last week would be...With that said Punk isn't worth the trouble in AEW regardless if he was bringing in 90% of those ratings or not. The man has been the dominating factor in a near civil war within AEW fandom. It sucks to see, even as a person that criticizes AEW a bit more judgmentally than others.

I've had to train myself to not give a tinker's damn about ratings (seriously, Bischoff and Russo can f*** off forever for just THAT part of wrestling fandom), but I think it shows 2 things about AEW's audience:
1. The bloom came off the rose with CM Punk fairly quick. Sure, he was ALWAYS going to have a sizeable fanbase within the audience, but it would take a lot more than losing CM Punk to put too much of a dent in AEW at this point, as they still have plenty of talent that carry name value.
2. If CM Punk was meant to bring in the "casual" fan or the lapsed fan, then it demonstrates that's not AEW's demo and likely never will be.

I am definitely not saying that Punk is not a draw at all, that would be disingenuous. I am just saying that he's not the level of draw that would have justified continuing to allow him to be as toxic a backstage presence as he had become. He'd become a clear net negative, and I say that as someone who was, and in many ways still is, a Punk fan and hopes that he responds to this situation by doing some soul searching and addressing the underlying issues that have caused him to get into these situations, rather than by just becoming even more withdrawn and belligerent.
