So this is a thread for when WWE talks about stuff that was never under their umbrella. So don't bring up stuff from promotions where WWE owns the library (so no WCW or ECW for example), but history and references from AEW, TNA, Japan, Mexico the indies and anything else along that line are all cool
So, for example, WWE calling Chad Gable's rolling German the Chaos Theory despite the fact Doug Williams was never in WWE outside of jobbing to Carlito in 2006.
Or that it's been acknowledged that Zelina's cousin is the Amazing Red and that's why she uses the Code Red.
Give me stuff like that.

Michael Cole: Pro Wrestling nerd surely qualifies. Dude was referencing some wild stuff not too long ago.

There have been a bunch of nods to Bullet Club ever since Finn, the Good Brothers, and AJ joined WWE. Even before the Club/OC stuff. Cody's done it too.

Those bags of shit Zeb and Jack Swagger referencing Sami Zayn's "time under a mask" during their NXT feud.
Miz calling Seth Rollins and Finn Balor by their indie and Japan names during their Mania feud.
JBL's commentary at the 2016 Rumble saying AJ Styles was "A Former IWGP champion, just like Brock Lesnar."
Going back to the WWF days: Curt Hennig referencing USWA in his 1996 Rumble commentary always stood out to me.
During the special Christmas episodes of Raw when Jerry Lawler would work some way into referring to Kane as a "Christmas Creature," or on Halloween episodes he'd slide in a "ghostbusters/wimpbusters" reference to his anti-Jimmy Hart USWA "Wimpbusters" music video.

Matt Striker was infamous for referencing things not under the WWE umbrella. Just off the top of my head, there's him calling Christian's WWECW debut "instantly classic" (his nickname in TNA was the Instant Classic), and during a title match featuring Kofi Kingston, he said he would be taking the title back to Ghana "where Prince Nana will be waiting".

I remember in 2018 after WrestleMania, Kurt Angle told Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn Impact was hiring after he refused to sign them to RAW and CM Punk mentioned he would maybe show up in Ring of Honor or New Japan during his 2011 pipe bomb

Michael Cole: Pro Wrestling nerd surely qualifies. Dude was referencing some wild stuff not too long ago. Hell, at Summerslam Cole mentioned that Iyo had gone from "World of Stardom to WWE Women's Champion", when at a point they'd just say "won championships all over the world", such a change of attitude.

They just inducted Great Muta into the Hall of Fame Because I didn't watch the HoF, how in depth were they with the induction? I know they'd mostly be using NWA/WCW footage, but did they mention specific Japanede promotions and championships by name or was it just a vague "legendary career in Japan"?

More Finn Balor stuff: When he went back to NXT and started calling himself the PRINXE with the X crossing out the C. Reference to his ring name in NJPW: Prince Devitt When he was a face, he'd call his fanbase the Balor Club as well as having it in his Titantron: another Bullet Club reference. Specifically, how BC members would have individualized logos based on the BC bone soldier logo. Examples like KENTA's GO2SLEEP Club, ELP's HDBNGR Club, Jay White's King Switch, David Finlay's Rebel Club, etc.
And of course, when Matt Hardy brought Broken Matt Hardy into WWE. And Jeff adopting Brother Nero again. Which led to the fun Deleters of Worlds team with the late Bray Wyatt.

Michael Cole spent the latter half of 2022 letting all of his wrestling nerd references out with Vince gone. He still does it now but it's more toned down.

Edge & Christian’s WWE Network show was full of in-jokes/references to stuff outside of WWE.
Kaval’s rap in NXT, when he said “‘cause I’m the only one delivering total nonstop action.”
The company frequently used footage from ROH and TNA in its documentaries. And before that, the Chris Benoit DVD included several matches from Japan.
