My suggestion for a Superman game is have the plot be that the main villian (perhaps Brainiac) has drained his powers somehow and you have to progressively unlock them. Anything that's too OP to work as gameplay can happen via cutscene. I think as long as the gameplay is good enough people will forgive it.

That kinda sounds like a Superman metroidvania and I'd be all for that.

I remember enjoying City, but it also had one of my biggest pet hates in gaming--DLC content encrouching into the main game.
Like, isn't there a bit early on where Batman is attacked by Two-Face, but that storyline is sealed behind DLC? And some areas are locked behind DLC, too.
That's always a massive pet hate of mine. DLC shouldn't touch the main game at all, should be entirely seperate. If I can't battle Two-Face without having to pay, then Two-Face shouldn;t appear in the main campaign at all.

I don't think there was any paid story DLC in Arkham City besides the Harley Quinn post-game episode where you play as Robin. Everything else was extra challenge maps and costumes.
There were some Catwoman missions that were DLC, but it was free as long as you bought the game new. It was also outright free on PC. Or if you bought the GOTY Edition or latter releases of the game like the Arkham Trilogy, all the DLC was included in the package. But none of the parts of the game where you play as Batman were locked off as DLC.
Maybe you're thinking of Arkham Knight? That was a lot more blatant about story DLC.

The Catwoman shit really was pretty egregious. The whole online pass era in games was a bunch of obnoxious nonsense to start with but it got even dumber doing it with a single player game, and it's even worse with Selina because her parts were a major part of the marketing and the story is very clearly structured with them in mind. And for bonus points she's not even actually particularly fun to play as.

Arkham City was my personal GotY pick for 2011. Also, man the hype thread here for the game was so insanely fun too. Everyone in that thread feasting on every tiny little crumb of new info we got as we got closer to release.

I preferred Asylum to City, but they’re both incredible games. 12 years already, though? Damn…

[/div] [/quote] Which still makes it DLC. Don't lock content behind a paywall, and don't have DLC encroach on the mains tory at all. If I can't do the Catwoman missions without paying extra, then Catwoman and her storyline shouldn't appear in the game. Likewise the Two-Face sidequest, don't have him appear in Batman's story if I cant fight him without paying for the Catwoman DLC.

I got the Arkham Trilogy on PS4 for like $10 last year on sale. Asylum, City, and Knight and all its DLC was an absolute steal at that price. $5 is just absurd for the entire package lol.

The remastered collection is a whopping 5 dollars on the PS store at the moment. Honestly it is all the damn time. Look a little further you can probably find them bundled with Knight and its DLC for a dollar or two more. That said the remaster is certainly very playable but it's really not good. Asylum is mostly okay, some glitches but mostly stable and some characters look significantly worse. City is baaaaaad. Very glitchy, can be prone to crashing especially if you're good at gliding across the city quickly, lot of places where it looks terrible. It's still very playable but it's a bit of a mess.

Arkham Knight isn't as good as Asylum and City, but it's well worth $5 on its own. When I bought the trilogy, I thought of it as buying Knight + all its DLC bundled in with Asylum and City as bonuses. I already had Asylum and 10 out of 10 GOTY version of City on my 360. And I think at the time, the Trilogy bundle was actually cheaper than just buying Knight on its own.
Never played Origins because I was skeptical of it being another studio besides Rocksteady (that being WB Games Montreal), who later ended up doing Gotham Knights. I am sad that the Blackgate-based Metroidvania Arkham game apparently ended up sucking, though.

Origins is pretty worth checking out. Kind of just a City mission pack that’s a little harder and much glitchier, but there’s novelty in that for sure and it has some great boss fights and the series’ best DLC by a mile. It’s not going to amaze you but it slots in well, they really should put it on modern consoles.

Also it's fun to explore the Arkham City map before it got f***ed up by the earthquake and turned into a prison, as it's got some nice visual references to the Gothams seen in TAS and the Burton/Schumacher movies.

Yeah, I thought Origins was a lot of fun. I wish I could still play it, without plugging in my 360. Tried streaming it on my PS5, but it was a mess.

Maurice LaMarche was always a solid voice actor, but him nailing both Freeze and Calendar Man in this game is a testament to just how good he is.

Also Nolan North was a surprisingly excellent Penguin. I mean, he's a great voice actor in general. But that was range I really didn't expect out of him because of how often he did his standard "Nolan North" voice in games.

Asylum was an amazing game. City managed to somehow top it. It's a shame Knight had to have the abysmal batmobile sections, I stopped playing after a couple of sections.
I thought Origins was good, too. But a glitch in one of the areas made the game unplayable.
