I just finished the Wrestle Kingdom 10 main event. I found that match to be flawed, yet pleasing. Aside from some apparent miscommunication in the ring that disrupted the suspension of disbelief for a moment, I don't have many gripes about that match. I'll nominate Kazuchika Okada vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi from 01/04/2016 as the best because it is the most recent New Japan I've seen. Post away.

2/3 falls Okada/Omega at Dominion. I still think their first WK match is overrated as it took 20 mins to get going before all the crazy shit kicked in but that Dominion match was a culmination of everything from their previous battles that told a great story in over an hour of wrestling
Honorable mentions: Shibata/Okada at Sakura Genesis - That was going to be the match that launched Shibata to a championship run but years of putting his brain through hell took its tool tho at least he had had it replaced (Meltzer)
Omega/Naito - G1 Climax - Two of your hottest stars on the roster competing to face off against the king (Okada) at WK. Just a pure amazing matchup before Naito was fully broken down and Kenny had found his stride as a guy who is breaking into the main event. Having Naito loss at WK to waste his time with Jericho for a year was bullshit tho

Like the good Captain mine is the 2/3 falls match between Omega and Okada.
I'm not an Okada fan, but goddam do they have generational chemistry in the ring.
Kenny's overall rise to the IWGP title is some of the best in-ring storytelling I've ever seen.

Probably Okada/Ishii at G1 Climax 26, if I had to narrow it down to just one. There are more historic and athletic matches from the late-2010’s golden era than that, but it’s a hidden gem from the two that shows off their storytelling skill.

Omega/Naito, G1 Climax 2016 semi-finals
Two dudes both looking to show that they're the best in the world having an all-out war, and they did it knowing that Omega had a main event match the next day. Phenomenal story telling, crazy spots, and built both guys up even more than they already were

Ibushi/Tanahashi, G1 28 Finals.
Absolute Master Psychology, with Ibushi going into his blank-eyed "Murder Ibushi" fugue state, and Tana selling it like he was actually being beaten to death.

Will probably try to think of a couple others later, but going from Omega/Naito in the G1 B block final in 2016 to Omega/Goto the next night was one of the greatest doubleheaders I've ever seen. It was a year where the winner really felt up in the air, and I bit on *so* many false finishes and it just felt like utter exhilaration between both nights.
