Meltzer’s reporting on it has been that it would be Punk-Rollins, Rock-Roman, and that there would be some type of injury angle to wipe out Cody, who would get his title shot against Roman sometime after Mania. So just like Punk walking out led to the right outcome at Mania 30, Punk getting injured is potentially leading to the right outcome at mania 40. Another weird parallel between decade anniversary manias It was the crowd reaction that changed it here. Once Punk was hurt they just weren’t going to do the injury angle and Cody would have just chosen Rollins and fought him.

And it'll pop a rating too. There's few draws in this business and CM Punk is definitely one of them. That's the crazy part to me. Was the Rock brought in because CM Punk got hurt? If Punk stays healthy he fights Rollins, so the tag doesn't happen. Was Rock emergency break glass? Or was he always going to be involved with the Main Event? It's all very confusing. Meltzer’s reporting on it has been that it would be Punk-Rollins, Rock-Roman, and that there would be some type of injury angle to wipe out Cody, who would get his title shot against Roman sometime after Mania. Wait, seriously? Then why even have Cody win the god damn, Rumble? To win sympathy? People shit on Vince for the whole YES movement being a forced thing, this seems worse than that. You were going to have Cody win the Rumble FAKE an injury so you could insert Rock as the Main Event? Wtf was Cody going to do? Just not appear at Mania at all? Interfere in a match? If they were truly going to just replace Cody with Rock with no build, then Endeavor is just as complicit in having their head up their asses with selfish booking decisions. That's crazy. That can't be authentic. That's worse than anything Vince has ever done, except when he put the belt back on Hogan at WrestleMania IX. That was slightly worse than this proposed solution, hopefully Meltzer had bad information or something, but that plan sounds TERRIBLE. LET'S HAVE OUR #1 BABYFACE WIN THE RUMBLE THEN FAKE AN INJURY SO WE CAN PUT ROCK IN THE MAIN EVENT. 😂 That's the stupidest thing I ever heard. Thanks for sharing.

Damn you CM Punk! Damn you straight to hell for not giving me a Cody injury angle to get the Rock into the WM main event! This place would have gone nuclear. 😂

Looking at all his promos as we are one week away from Wrestlemania.
I am glad he is staying in character and doing character work. This is where he is at the best.
So no more "CM Shoot" is for the best. That character needed to die a quick death all the way back in 2012.

Punk said, "Ya'll need to handle this, because if you don't you're not gonna like the way I handle it."
Look…I don’t even care what happened at this point. But brittle Phil who we’ve all seen try to fight for real saying this and acting like it isn’t f***ing hilarious is the funniest thing I’ve ever heard.

I wish he never signed with AEW, I'm so over this whole thing. And yet here I am in here, posting about how over it I am...

I'm going to say my thing, then leave, because I am sick of his act already. The guy, in this interview said he was almost going to sign with WWE in 2021. That was when Vince was in charge, when they signed a huge deal to get that Saudi blood money, and he was going to sign. He's a Carney, which is fine, most pro wrestlers are, but I am tired of his fanbase treating him like a modern day Holden Caufield, he's a worker, and he's working now, just being more polished and cunning than your favorite podcast grifters, just like he was years ago.

Said it in the AEW thread, a very interesting interview. Quite a few contradictions from Punk, but the one thing I do believe him on is how the Jack Perry incident went at All In

I feel like there isn’t a HR department in the world that would accept “I only choked him a little bit” as anything but a fireable offense, never mind a suspendable one.

I mean he said as much here about how when he said that line in his AEW debut about returning to pro wrestling, he was just leaning into what that audience would want to hear.

Can someone summarize this? My work blocks "redirect.viglink.com" and "comsync.lijit.com", so the way Proboards handles links make them impossible for me to see them.

Good interview, so far as meat on the bone. Lotsa folks thought he'd be pitched softballs but he's been honest (re: talkative) as always.

Backstage fights have happened forever without termination being the result. Although I guess you could say Punk also being an employee and not just an independent contractor might change that view. Plus it not being a first strike for him.
