Fightful said that talent were pulled aside before the last match and were told Punk would be returning at the end. Some excited, some upset, some curious. Pretty much the basic stuff that's said when someone joins a company who's big. Apparently Kermit (wrestling insider on Reddit) said Seth knew, it's a work and it's setting up Punk/Seth at Rumble. EDIT: Yep.

With Rhea as well, that means either multiple people really hate that Punk is there or they’re all pretending to hate it. Either way, pretty stupid! That’s kind of where I’m at, that WWE had this massive, shocking return and all we’re talking about in its immediate aftermath is whether the WWE performers hate CM Punk for real or hate him on screen. It’s not a great look that the conversation has immediately shifted from “CM Punk is back!” to “CM Punk is back and we have to wait until Monday Night Raw to find out whether everyone’s anger was scripted!” The only people that are talking about "is it a work or not," is the IWC. I don't put any weight in the "is it a work or not," because if it's on camera, it most likely is. Seth Rollin's called CM Punk a "cancer" a few months ago, and CM Punk/Seth Rollins sounds like a great match for WM 40. |

It sucks because, like, I enjoyed the show tonight, I can enjoy wrestling plenty, but when you've got trash like Punk and McDonagh and Nia on one side and people like Hager and Darby and Andrade on the other it's just frustrating to deal with the realities of the industry. I don't think there's anyone inherently horrible on Impact right now if you need to scratch your wrestling itch. Like the closest is probably Tommy Dreamer and he's just kind of an idiot. Swann and Perkins still around? |

Who are Punk’s locker room allies? Kofi from carshare days, Bayley is friends with AJ and… It’s going to be lonelier than Collision was when it was the CM Punk & Friends show.  He's got allies in Mandy Rose's BSK. It's all he needs. The most powerful group in all of professional sports and entertainment. |

Maybe Cody? Stephen Amell is a mutual and he spoke highly of Punk's contributions to "Heels." s I remember on an episode of BTE back in 2019 the bucks were talking about how they would love to have Punk in AEW & Cody's face basically said it all.
He didnt want Punk in AEW.
I’m not one to gossip (I am) but I think there was something with Beth Phoenix at one point, amongst other things I’m sure. |

For what it’s worth, SportsCenter just posted the Seth Rollins video on Instagram. And considering how tight WWE and ESPN are and have been, that should put to bed any notions that it wasn’t 100 percent a work.
