Tonight is such a mindf*** I could spend the rest of 2023 thinking about it and still be absolutely dumbfounded. All of Cole's references, MALAKAI saying Punk by name apparently (recorded Rampage/Collision, hopefully will get to them sometime this week) and it all leading to this. And I have a houseshow tomorrow and I don't know what to expect except that I'm going to just be doing the most Pisces thing possible, sitting quietly and observing everything. Anybody check on FTR Bald & Danhausen?? Least bold is neatly tied for a while up with a nice contract so Punk can’t bring him back with him |

Honestly, I think the most likely outcome is that Punk has a good run, at least for a year or so. I think the biggest issue in AEW, really, was that, by the end, Punk felt like AEW was beneath him and Tony Khan objectively made things worse by groveling to him and basically giving him his own show rather than just letting him leave after Muffingate. Punk not viewing himself as a big fish in a small pond (whether or not that was actually true) will make him less likely to lose his mind because of things like perceived slights in promos and not being “treated with enough respect,” I think. But we’ll see. I think the one thing we know with absolute certainty is that Punk is incredibly volatile. |

For the record, I still say TK was right to fire Punk. Punk started so much shit in AEW, he fought multiple people, and TK had no choice but to fire Punk. I think Punk probably loathes the fact that he had to swallow his pride and come crawling back to WWE. Hunter probably still thinks Punk is an obnoxious, entitled, asshole. Rollins and Rhodes probably are less than thrilled Punk is going to share a locker room with them moving forward. But I know Cody, Hunter, and Rollins are professional enough to put that aside when there’s money to be made. Punk, I’m less certain, but I do think he’s far less likely to act out in WWE, where he’s just another cog in the machine, as opposed to AEW, where he felt entitled to be treated as the lord and savior of the company, or something. |
