Whenever their first big album hit the kid on the street who's parents only let him listen to Christian music got it. Heard it a few times and meh.
Forgot about them until 1990. Buddy who was a few years older had inherited a huge house. 4 bedrooms 2 full baths. So he rented out the spare bedrooms. One of the guys living there went by the nickname Stryper. At first I just assumed it was cause he wore striped shirts all the time. Nope dude was/is the biggest Stryper fan ever.

I've seen all of the episodes of the original series, and I can confirm they were never on there.

Didn’t know who they were until Jericho mentioned them somewhere. Same. Until I saw him fanboying about booking them for one of his cruises I had never heard of them before.

Their early work was a little too new wave for my taste. But when To Hell With the Devil came out in '86, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. They've been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Stryper has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor.
In '88 Stryper released this; In God We Trust, their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Always There For You". A song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity and the importance of trends. It's also a personal statement about the band itself.

I'm surprised no one said this:
I learned about them from Drew Barrymore's directorial debut about roller derby, "Whip It."

Like I Love The 80s on VH1 or some shit. Then later Jericho's book. Still not sure I've heard any of their songs.

My sister used to get all of the metal magazines and they were in there. TO HELL WITH THE DEVIL!!!! LMAO As someone who isn't exactly religious, that's actually a pretty good album...and I typically dislike glam metal too.

Those VH1 metal shows from back in the day
To Hell With The Devil is kind of a clever name at least!

Honestly the Jericho thread.
It's possible I've seen them in Beavis and Butthead but I have no recollection of it.

Whether it was in one of the comics or something else, I definitely learned about them through Beavis & Butthead.
