I’ve got to be honest, this killed my interest in the match. They could have brought back Disco Inferno and Alex Wright or the Mean Street Posse and I’d care more.
Or take every available name and draw two out of a hat. Riho and Powerhouse Hobbs? Awesome. Prince Nana and Tony Schiavone? Hell, alright, let’s see what they do. Tony Khan and some muffins from Mindy’s Bakery? Sure!
Obviously I’m joking, but only about half.

But did they get Nandos for the lads? they're in Florida, so it'd be Zaxby's OR potentially Raising Cane's. I can't hear "Zaxby's" without thinking about how the owner's son tried to kill his ex-wife and her new BF (only to get killed, himself).

So we’re really getting bucks vs Sting and Darby instead of Darby vs Sting?

I think there could be some magic here. Bucks can get heat. When they at their smarmy douchebag best nobody can play crowd as good as them really.
Now everyone thinks in wrestling that you retire on your back. You always lose your last match etc. In the build up you can have the Bucks lean into that. Basically be like "wink wink we are going pin Sting in his last match lol".
Feed the outraged crowd who just can't believe Sting, the legend, the Icon, is gonna eat a pin from those damn Cucamonga kids in his last ever match. The Bucks will cement their legacy as the GOAT tag team when they are standing tall with their arms raised, as Sting is on his back staring at the lights.
You can 100% get people to bite on that. People be like 'Sting can't not lose his last match, he's old school, he'll demand to job on his way out'. Lay it on thick that Sting will obviously lose his last match.
Then come match time, you got a rabid Greenboro crowd, the home of old school pro wrasling. You got Bucks being heel Bucks, smarmy, cocky, plenty of hotdogging and grandstanding. Being booed out the building. "If Bucks win, we riot" type stuff.
Bucks mockingly saying "I love you" as they hit the BTE trigger, only for Sting to kick out at 1, to a monster pop, hulk up and get the win as the roof blows off.

So we’re really getting bucks vs Sting and Darby instead of Darby vs Sting? Sting said already there wont be Darby vs Sting. One thing I wish wrestling would outgrow is the need to have every relationship eventually have someone turn(looking at you Adam Cole).

Darby Allin being the one guy to never betray Sting is pretty funny.
But yeah, I figured his final match would be a tag match. He is going to be a few weeks shy of his 65th birthday at the time of his PPV. As great as he's looked, I just don't think he has the ability to have a long singles match anymore.

They look like the heels of the week on an episode of Miami Vice back in the day.
It will be a great match and the Bucks will make Sting look like a million bucks on the way out.

I'm genuinely surprised that people thought he'd do a singles match. He's done 0 since joining AEW and was on record saying he doesn't think he can do one, doesn't want to, and wants to go out tagging with Darby. It's weird that his whole AEW run, that's been pretty much unanimously well received, followed the same formula and people would want to change it for his final match.

Historically it has also bit him in the ass. lol

I think it was more wishful thinking that it be a single match over a tag. All signs pointed to tag but I think we just hoped they were swerving us and suprise us.
Bucks is pretty sweet match up. The FD trios match involving these was really good

Sting is set to retire after almost 40 years since his debut.
The legendary performer is planned for the Greensboro AEW Revolution show, a city in which he’s performed in many times. Many had questions as to who his opponent will be, and how it would be selected.
Fightful has learned that Sting has had a major say in who his opponent or opponents will be. We’ve heard that he’s been more keen on continuing to do tag team matches as opposed to a singles match, as he’s indicated in the past. The Young Bucks appeared on AEW Dynamite at the end of the January 10 show, hinting that it could be them. As of several weeks ago, that was actively the plan, and one that Sting was on board with.Â
We’re told that Sting getting the right send off has been a very important thing for Tony Khan. We’re told that pretty well whatever Sting wants en route to his send off, the company has been willing to make happen.
It should go without saying, but in case you’re wondering, we’re told Ric Flair hasn’t been considered for any in-ring performing, but has been actively pushing to do more physical spots.
Young Bucks have long been planned for a shift in presentation, as highlighted by those mustaches on Wednesday.

I think the Bucks - Sting/Darby is an ideal final match at this point in his career (don’t think a singles is really a realistic option).

I also think if you try to picture a Darby and Sting singles match, you can start to see that it wouldn’t work very well. You don’t really want Sting needing to catch Darby on a bunch of dives. And it’d just be a weird dynamic for a face vs face match.
