Fair enough it’s live TV and these things can happen from time to time, but now it’s just accepted that the ending of Dynamite will be four/five minutes over their allotted time. Why? Are they just really shitty at keeping time? Is it some cynical ploy to get the overall rating up? Why does it happen every single week now?

Either to give the shows a less scripted feel or because TK is bad at time-keeping.

Probably has to do with long promos and backstage interviews/segments being crammed together right before the next match starts.
It does get a lot of the roster featured, but not always worth the effort when it causes matches in the second hour to be rushed.

Probably a mix of AEW's always had terrible time management and it reliably boosts the overall a bit from people tuning in at the end to either catch the ending or see the next show up.

Ratings gimmick likely. Try and give the following hour an artificial boost

The overrun's done good numbers, so it makes sense to try and get some extra viewers turning over at the top of the hour. That and it does let some matches breathe in case something might go over time.
NXT does this every single week too, they have a pre-baked in like 10 minute overrun, RAW did it for years and sometimes had near 20 minute overruns. So... what's the issue? I actually prefer when they're allowed to do this, Smackdown actually has to end like 3 minutes before the top of the hour because of FOX and I hate it lol

It's 2024 and people still wonder why wrestling shows have overruns.

I hope people have this same energy for Raw having an overrun for literally decades now. I doubt it though.

It's common in wrestling. NXT almost always goes 10 minutes past the top of the hour.

Like, maybe it’s because I stream Dynamite through Fite that it feels like the most minor thing in the world. Especially since we get the AEW feed rather than the broadcast one.
Also, Dave Meltzer wasted most of his day arguing with people about it and, in terms of stuff that might be wrong with AEW, it feels so minor.

I wouldn’t be concerned about the overrun if YouTube tv wasn’t terrible with this kind of thing.

I do admit I miss WCWs "WE'RE OUTTA TIME BYE" as a huge brawl just broke out and Sting was about to descend to the ring.

I like it, gives the main events a bit of breathing room. I know that has been an issue in the past, so it allows them to have some leeway.

I can understand overruns might be common in wrestling as general. However, part of me also thinks TK/management doesn't know how to keep with time. I do believe Khan's philosophy of "quantity over quality" plays a factor in that. I wouldn’t be concerned about the overrun if YouTube tv wasn’t terrible with this kind of thing. Speaking of YouTube, sometimes I just wished AEW Dark(: Elevation) would establish a time limit than rather running shows at inconsistent times. I know it was good to put absurd amount of matches to get unsigned wrestlers a little of exposure but a limit should've been done. The same can be said about ROH on HonorClub. I know it's not on TV but a VOD instead. Still, there should be a limit for each programming rather than going to 2 hour and out of nowhere to a whole 3 hour. I know I'm in the minority with that thought by the way.

People with DVRs are ultimately the ones that jobs at the end of this ordeal.

It's a good sign of faith that TBS let's them have a overrun most weeks. The network could easily say no and pull the plug.

People with DVRs are ultimately the ones that jobs at the end of this ordeal. I set mine to overrun 30 minutes or more on most wrestling shows, because there have been preemptions in the past too.

I thought it was to give it a sports like atmosphere, like the games that go into overtime or something similar and the channel just moves the following programs to a later starting time, so the game can get to its conclusion and everyone's able to see it.
