It just feels like they've constantly been searching for the magic of Edge's first cash in, and while there have been a few moments that worked, they were either based on timing (Rollins cashing in) or guys already being super over with the crowd (Ambrose, Big E, Punk) Ambrose worked due to Dean stating that he was going to win the MitB match then cash in on whoever emerged with the title in the Rollins/Reigns match. Dude told everyone what he was going to do and did it, and it worked a treat as he not only got the job done after almost two years of not being able to, he also got revenge on Rollins in the best possible way. Both of Punks cash ins worked as one was on a hated heel who got a taste of his own medicine (Edge), and the other was on a beloved face (Jeff Hardy). Big E didn't work because dude was a face and cashed in on Lashley after Bobby had beaten Randy Orton in a title match. It felt flat and got his reign off to a less than ideal start.

I was watching summerslam and this dude coming down for Seth Versus Finn put it into perspective the kind of joke he is.
I don’t really like priest, so no skin off my back. But yea, this has been a joke.
FWIW, I think they will pull the trigger on it in the next few months. He probably wins it off Seth or punk.

It feels like more than ever WWE really needs to either A)Get rid of MITB or B) Change up the rules on how/when someone can cash in. Maybe it's time to change that the winner now has a guaranteed title match Summerslam or Survivor Series (maybe have the briefcase be defended at ppvs in the mean time). As the briefcase really hasn't helped anybody get over and has more or less become a crutch to get the title off someone who has lost steam but they want to keep looking strong. Cause honestly, it feels like Priest as a solo act has lost the momentum he had gotten post Mania. I saw someone somewhere else say Money in the Bank should work like the G1 where you continually have to defend it, which would kind of both necessitate keeping the holder strong and in-story incentivize them to hurry up and cash in. I like that idea a lot. Whether or not that was officially the case, I'd like to see the briefcase defended and otherwise doing stuff with the case that isn't necessarily just "BUT WILL THEY CASH IN???" Like, at least have some kind of goddamn explanation for stuff like Priest's inaction here, like give him some stated reason for why he'd wait. A "management paid me to not injure Seth further", "I don't want my cash-in to look like a fluke, I want my win to be undeniable"(would be weak given some of his past behavior, but it's at least vaguely plausible why he'd care), or a kayfabe injury for Damian to say he's out of commission for two weeks. SOMETHING.

I have been watching the Rumbles I haven't seen on YouTube and Chad Gable convinced Priest to try to take Omos on by himself and immediately get eliminated so
Yeah seems like he's not that bright

I saw someone somewhere else say Money in the Bank should work like the G1 where you continually have to defend it, which would kind of both necessitate keeping the holder strong and in-story incentivize them to hurry up and cash in. I like that idea a lot. That's basically the idea I'm going with. Basically either give it the Summerslam main event, or if you want more intrigue the Summerslam or Royal Rumble and the briefcase must be defended. The women's MITB has at least had the benefit of getting cashed in during reigns where the crowds had kind of become sick of the champ so the surprise cash in could kind of work...and aside from maybe Nikki ASH the women that had the brief case were ready for the world title as well. It just feels like they've constantly been searching for the magic of Edge's first cash in, and while there have been a few moments that worked, they were either based on timing (Rollins cashing in) or guys already being super over with the crowd (Ambrose, Big E, Punk) I think it's one of those gimmicks that just doesn't work as an annual thing; it works when you've got a story to tell in which a feature like that augments things or adds to someone's character - they built it into Edge's heel character, they used it with Moxley/Ambrose to get the ultimate revenge on Rollins, etc. Otherwise, to me, it has the same basic problem the Royal Rumble has from a kayfabe perspective: the company is supposedly cool with allowing a gimmick match, one where luck can play a very strong role (admittedly not as much as in the Rumble, but still), determine the likely next standard bearer of the promotion. Like you guys said, at least having people need to defend the briefcase would give its winner more legitimacy ahead of cashing in, that'd be a better solution, and ditching the whole "can instantly cash in during/after a match" thing would be preferable, too, outside of, again, occasional instances where it serves the story/characters well. I think the word coming out that they had Ziggler cash his in, win, celebrate, and that Vince then turned to everyone around him and said "ok, but we're not doing anything with him" kind of reflects the whole issue: it shouldn't be something given out or used willy-nilly, it should be used to get stories and wrestlers over, and instead there's just this legacy of people cashing in so there can "be a moment" at a show or just because it'd be something to surprise the fans, not because there's a grander design in mind. Maybe whatever they end up doing with Priest will justify some of this stuff, but yeah, it does feel more like a hindrance and "just something we've gotta do every year" instead of something useful.

SOMETHING. In that promo, Seth said nothing about being cleared or that he couldn't wrestle, he just said he was going to rehab the injury. Priest had a golden opportunity to challenge a one legged man to an ass kicking contest, and there needs to be an explaination why Priest was nowhere to be found.

One of the things I hope the full HHH era has remedied is this need for having newer talent come off as gigantic goobers in minor moments. People then go "Hey, I wonder why they didn't make many new stars? It's such a mystery!"

I've got two separate but connected thoughts on this one:
1. Yes, MITB may be outliving its usefulness as a story device and I wouldn't mind a refresh. Maybe they have to defend it, maybe they replace it with the Iron Survivor Challenge and that determines your Summerslam contender.
2. I think people are slightly overreacting about what this is going to do to Damien Priest both short and long-term. The dude went from "HIS DAMIEN SIDE" to main eventing RAW shows and being featured regularly. Nothing has happened yet that has totally killed his character. In fact, I'd argue that him cashing in just to be a transitional champ during Mania season because somebody got hurt doesn't do him any favors, either.
There's just too much "all or nothing" when it comes to how people perceive WWE booking sometimes. It's either you win it all or you belong in Bitchalla. There's no real in-between.

The latter, from a guy who stopped watching a while ago so my expertise on the product from 2019-Now isn't great, is probably a sort of PTSD from the old days where the whims of an old man basically said your worth on screen in very vivid ways so I can get how hard it is to think a certain way even if it isn't exactly fair to the new administration. Now, I just think it's a weird way to book a guy you want to have some importance in going forward, especially with the JD as over as they are and the breakup probably being the way to send Finn Balor off if he doesn't resign, but it doesn't seem that doom and gloom. Just weird.

I've lost interest in Priest lately because of this, but man, that split personality thing was in a garbage class of its own. I don't miss Vince's dumbass trying to fix things that aren't broken.

Like, we’re not talking about what someone mention where the name Damien Priest meant he has an Angel and Devil of a personality, just someone being incompetent with the MITB, which is a trope that should be gone but not the biggest problem.

The only way to explain this is if Priest had a “change of heart” while he was in the judgment day and turned face, beat Finn at Mania and then challenged the champ (whether it’s Seth or Punk) after Mania straight up like RVD

There's also an option where Damien cashes in at the end of WrestleMania night 1 and ruins either Punk or Seth's night. Nobody's going to run out and stop him then like they have been to date. They've already done the mid-match cash-in, they've never done the post-match cash-in during a Mania main event.

Dude was already at the summit.
