I brought this up in the Andrade thread but I figured I'd ask here in it's own topic. But what's not clicking with Carlito? Was super excited when he came back but it seems like something is off or missing.
They haven't really tried to do much with him but there's stuff that seemed wasted like his match with Lashley and things that seem to not go anywhere like his issues with Santos.

He's just not that good? He's a good character guy but when it comes to actual matches, I'm not sure he's ever had a single one that was above pretty alright.

- Changed his music which made him stand out.
- Guys who have spent most of their career heel come across as insincere faces.
- He was over in Puerto Rico, that’s like Natalya being over in Calgary; a given that won’t necessarily apply elsewhere.

Dude getting swapped out for Dragon Lee for the Survivor Series match against Santos didn't do him any favours, but it looks like the dude wasn't a must see prospect to begin with.
Dude is still a member of the LWO, but in that group, he's not the dude that should be the focus and it should be Escobar vs Rey Mysterio at Wrestlemania.

Bad new theme song
They waited months to actually debut him for some reason
His debut was lukewarm after Backlash which was in his home country
He is in his mid 40's, jacked, and not very mobile. He wasn't very mobile in his prime
He isn't like a total wash but Carlito's really just a guy. At this point I kinda wish they'd rehire Primo and do The Colons again, at least it'd give the tag division more something to do, he doesn't fit in the LWO at all to me.

I’m sure he could do some good work if given something to work with but that’s the thing, I can’t think of anything. After the LWO stuff I doubt he sticks around long.

He was never that good and is now 20 years older and still not that good?

Carlito's return was always more over as a semi-regular dirtsheet headline than it ever was in actual reality.
He peaked in 2005 after Flair beat him and never tried to prove Flair wrong after THAT "...and you're leaving?" promo some years later.

I think he was a veteran that was brought back to help put over younger talent. Other than switching him out at Survivor Series, this run has gone about as I expected. Not everyone is a main eventer, but they probably could have built him up enough to unsuccessfully challenge for the US title. He is still savable in that regard with a few wins in a row.

The best Carlito match I can recall its the one vs Orton on Unforgiven 2006 and that's because of the RKO spot

But seriously, never underestimate how "bad" music can totally kill the vibe.
I'm not going to pretend like Carlito is a wrestling god, but when it takes 10 seconds to figure out who the hell is coming out... you've failed as a promoter.

He's there to put people over at 45
He's getting a steady paycheck
I would at least like to see some more mic work from him though

Everyone wants to be cool so there is no one for him to spit in the face.
and changing his entrance theme....that's not cool.

Carlito is a guy who also got himself and programs over on the mic, aside from when he first came in has he really had much mic time?

I don't know if he was ever supposed to be a gigantic, long term return. I think just having a veteran guy on the roster who is over and can work with younger guys is always helpful.
