I’ve waited on Brian Zane, Whatculture, or Wrestlecrap to do a deep dive on this one. Granted it’s a topic so broad that you are blind to gloss over a lot. And to be fair, there were some bright spots when they actually had a guest host who were fans and were clearly enjoying themselves. But far more often it was washed up d listers looking for a quick paycheck, or utterly lame promotional tie ins. For every Hugh Jackman, there was an A Team or Jared from Subway. So what are any particular high and low points of this particular period that stick out and would be worth mentioning in a deep dive omnibus?

I remember liking the one with Florence Henderson but most of them were 'please get off my screen'.

It literally killed my interest in watching week to week in high school, 2009 is one of the worst years ever for WWE.

That was also when we got that never ending feud between Chavo Guerrero and Hornswoggle.

The Jeremy Piven episode is one of the worst things I've ever seen. Not just in wrestling, but any media.

Typical Vince wasting money on celebrities who didn't know who the wrestlers were. And there were probably real fans who would have participated but they weren't chosen.

The Jeremy Piven episode is one of the worst things I've ever seen. Not just in wrestling, but any media. theres a place in hell where people go if they constantly talk up how great Chris Benoit was as a wrestler and try to downplay him murdering his family. in that place, they have to sit and watch the Jeremy Piven/Dr. Ken episode of RAW on repeat forever.

Bradley Cooper's "Crap, these rubes saw me" split after the A-Team's intro was priceless...

The ones I remember being pretty fun were The Muppets, Bob Barker, Seth Green, Hugh Jackman

The idea of Raw having guests hosts isn't a bad one. Special guests from the world of entertainment with followings who could potentially be enticed by the product and grab a reason to send off press releases/get other media coverage along the way is almost downright inspired, especially at the start of the YouTube/social media "Content creation" era.
It's just the execution was so poor with Vince's final out-of-touch terrible say on everything on-screen that made it unwatchable and possibly hurt WWE's image among these prospective new fanbases than helped. Like, the writing was so, so much worse than any of even the lower-tier celebrity guests were accustomed to.
While there were a few bright spots (Jackman, Lovitz, The Muppets, Ventura, Barker etc.) it was a case of 2009 WWE's Gonna 2009 WWE.

This is one of the the things that led to me not watching wrestling for the first time in my life and not starting again until the last year or so.

The Jeremy Piven episode is one of the worst things I've ever seen. Not just in wrestling, but any media. We did get SummerFest out of it! Also Jeremy jumping off the top rope and his friend getting military pressed from John Cena to people outside. Not many celebrities were willing to jump off the top rope. Another bad one was that rapper Hildenbrand the rapper who hosted the last Raw of the 2000s and said that the main event (John Cena vs Sheamus was the match of the CENTURY. (Completely not knowing of say Rock Vs Hogan from WM18 amongst others)). I think he was either drunk and/or high. Another bad obe was Dennis Miller (and he made inside jokes about how bad Raw was during the show.) Even though on screen, he said he watched Raw, you can tell he didn’t due to him calling the Great Khali, the Big Great Khali and HHH the SHOW (which caused HHH to call him Dennis MILLBURN or something.) Dennis made jokes that were horrible and he asked the crowd to give the wrestlers an ovation (okay that was nice.)

I attended the Bob Barker episode live. Barker seemed to be really into it and his back and forth with Jericho was fantastic.

What about when retired wrestlers or personalities did it? Ted DiBiase Sr was one of the better examples. He came out to quite a pop and then quickly got booed like he used to. He still knew how to get heat.
Also, at least Shaq is a fan, and I liked that staredown between him and Big Show.
I also could talk about when Buzz Aldrin appeared in 2010. It was such a train wreck.

Another good one was when Sgt. Slaughter trolled the shit out of the Canadian crowd.

This was possibly the worst era ever in WWE for me.
This was followed in 2010-11 with the anonymous GM and heel Michael Cole.
Truly an abysmal time to be a WWE fan. Thank goodness for CM Punk awesome during all of this.

Just be thankful that THIS never happened: officialfan.proboards.com/thread/309710Besides, it wasn’t all bad. We got Rappin’ William Regal. And, while he wasn’t technically a guest host, this era also gave us Randy Orton RKO’ing Meat Loaf. Would you believe that both of these moments came from the same show? This episode of Raw was also notable for the following: *It was WWE’s final show at Pittsburgh’s Civic Arena. *Edge announced that, per the Board of Directors, guest hosts no longer had the power to book matches. *I was there! I still have the commemorative shirt from that night, too. That was also when we got that never ending feud between Chavo Guerrero and Hornswoggle. At least it gave us a Macaulay Culkin cameo. I remember that segment; I got the Home Alone reference right away but I didn’t realize it was Macaulay until everyone in the Raw thread mentioned it.
