I can’t be the only one that has noticed this type of promotion gets overused on the indies. Usually it’s “Some Guy No Casual Fan Has Ever Heard of” Vs. “Another Guy No Casual Has Ever Heard Of”
I get that promoting is tough and with so many people getting snapped up by the big leagues, indies have to do whatever they can. But this “FIRST TIME EVER” nonsense has been overdone to the point where it feels like a parody.
It’s especially cringeworthy when they throw in that it’s a “Dream Match” and again any prospective new fan has never heard of either.

I don't mind it provided they don't whip out "dream match", since yeah, that's stupid.

It's literally promotion. You use everything you can. 'Dream match' might be a bit far but otherwise this complaint is nonsense. Wrestling is fundamentally the industry of making things seem more impressive than they actually are

It's literally promotion. You use everything you can. 'Dream match' might be a bit far but otherwise this complaint is nonsense. Wrestling is fundamentally the industry of making things seem more impressive than they actually are You save these things for when they’re relevant. Otherwise it all runs together so when a prospective fan sees “Santa Clause Vs. Kendo Nagasaki” or whatever match would be impressive as “First Time Ever” they’d just think, “So what. Every month something else gets promoted as first time ever. It doesn’t matter if I miss this show.” There’s good promotion and bad promotion. Using everything you can is nonsense. After all handing out a free swastika with every ticket would be a promotion too, but I wouldn’t say that’s a good idea. Promoting wrestling is a form of marketing and there really is an art to longterm successful marketing. That’s why you promote one match as “First Time Ever.” Next show it’s the big cage match. The one after that it’s the former WWE star making his debut. Or whatever floats the boat of that particular audience.

Reminds me of a flyer I saw online recently for a Philadelphia Atoms exhibition soccer game in 1973 against visiting Irish club Finn Harps, who were billed on it as "the mightiest of mighty Irish teams" and "Ireland's most popular team" despite in reality being from a remote area with no major silverware in their history up to that point, while also mentioning two players by name who were apparently "Ireland's two outstanding players" both of whom were actually Northern Irish with only one winning a handful of international caps a few years earlier. The whole thing thing felt extremely pro wrestling to read!

I remember when ring announcer Trevin Adams might say "the following contest is scheduled for one and can only happen in EVOLVE".
Of course it can happen in EVOLVE as it is mostly two regular talents and/or sometimes and one regular talent and the ocassional outsider. Don't get me wrong but I have always find this announcement a little ridiculous.

Oddly I don't see it happening down this way. And first time matches between two locals would draw.
Last year I think Nov might have Dec,two long time southern vets finally faced each other. Great match crowd loved it.And when the footage went online had a pile of people saying if it had been advertised they would have made the drive to the venue.

I haven’t seen it my region, but every promotion in the area is a combination of about the same 30 or 40 people, so there probably aren’t many “first time ever” matches left.

Unless it is a vet vs a rookie. That is why when AWA Pro booked that match and I heard I was like damn figured those two had faced each other a few times.
