Just found this match on this card on Cagematch: www.cagematch.net/?id=1&nr=32760Anyone know more about this match? My first thought is it was a battle royal inside of a cage, but even before big blue, WWF cages tended to hug the ropes so there really wouldn’t be a way to throw them out of the ring. Maybe they were just chucking guys out the door?

A quick bit of research pointed me to 'Culturecrossfire' A website with a Wrasslin' Back in the day column by Andrew Lutzke where he writes.
"The WWF ran a unique card in Hartford called ‘Steel Cage Turmoil” which was a gauntlet style “tournament featuring 19 straight cage matches with 20 different men competing. The winner stayed on and a fresh opponent then came in to challenge him. Big John Studd ultimately won the event, beating Chief Jay Strongbow, Sal Bellomo and Rocky Johnson to claim the duke."

Which is nonsensical considering its a Gauntlet Match essentially and so your winner is constantly having to escape a cage over and over.

Had to be a door escape for most. In fact, I assumed everyone but Tito took the door. There's no way Jay Strongbow was climbing over in 1984.

It's a good thing this didn't become the Royal Rumble.

William Regal: "Steel Cage Turmoil!"
*Crowd goes mild*
Seriously though, if it was maybe 5-6 competitors, and it was pins, knockouts, or submissions this would be pretty cool. 'Randomise' the order so you might have two allies going at it, or you might have a heel sneak back in to double team the face.
With some good booking and 2 or 3 big spots this would be a solid 30 minute match. Great for giving a shine, rub, push.. whatever you want to call it. Also great for some major heel heat
