It was cool he returned and made up with Undertaker once and for all. Some said it should've been a one night only thing and Undertaker goes solo again.
They eventually killed of Bearer a few months later anyways.
Did Paul Bearer with Undertaker feel completely out of place in 2004 WWE to you?

His “oh yes” at Wrestlemania 20 was a goosebump moment. Unfortunately everything that followed was laughable.

Paul Bearer was always a more cartoon-ish character to me, which fit in the early 90's, but not really in the 2000's. I don't think the post ABA Taker really needed to cut promos at all. They could tell the stories of him a bunch of other ways.
Taker also mentioned he did not want to do the urn thing and keep this version of the character a bit more human than it was in the early 90's. When you can't do things like have facial emotions or sell things, it makes matches harder to do.
There was also the issue of Paul's weight problems at the time. He had a hard time walking to the ring and blew out his knee shortly after this run was over. Thankfully he was able to figure that out

At the time I didn't think so. That WM 20 moment was worth it alone, but looking back on it....yeah, a case could be made.

The moment at WM 20 was pretty Epic no doubt, everything afterwards was a bit out of place most likely.
I think Taker and Bearer in the 2000s was already a bit played out too much, to have worked longer anymore. Given that Kane vs Taker was always a bit overbooked also..

Out of place or not, I'm really glad he got his flowers at Mania XX
Dude deserved them, from everything I've heard he was one of the kindest souls in the business

His “oh yes” at Wrestlemania 20 was a goosebump moment. Unfortunately everything that followed was laughable. Yeah absolutely. When me and my friend heard that we were like "oh shit! ", and it was cool to see him. However, after that he was just out of place and pretty corny.

I didn't mind it. It isn't like Undertaker himself was doing his mystique any favors with his MMA gloves and trying to push his strikes in a way that just kind of made him seem older, somehow.

If the zombie version of Undertaker is not too out of place then Paul can't be either. They're equally ridiculous

I don't care how silly it looked, I'll always take Undertaker with Paul Bearer over Undertaker solo.

I'll be honest I don't remember anything he did in between his return and his cement death

It was great for the return in XX. They could just done the one off and it would been fine.

I loved having him back but if he only showed up for ppvs or special appearances then that would've been better than just straight up killing him off.

In retrospect, Paul Bearer does feel out of place since you have years of this incarnation of Undertaker to look back on afterwards.
But in 2004, his presence was the cherry on top for the return of The Dead Man, especially since he still largely looked like Bikertaker.
