I was in the petrol station/gas station today and I was looking for a drink. And in the drink section there was an "american soda" section. And amongst all of the imported american soda I saw one of those "Mountain Dew Pitch Black". And it really bummed me out because the first thing I thought of was Bray Wyatt and the that terrible match. I was in a mood for like 2 hours afterwards.
You ever get weird little mental associations like that?
Note: I bought the friggin' thing and it was disgusting. It tastes like non-alcoholic Buckfast.

I like to drink Coke. It's good stuff.
I can't order it at a restaurant because every time I hear somebody say a variation of "We have Coke" I remember my dinosaur bitch of a co-worker I had for 12 years that called every consumable liquid "Coke".

I have certain songs that I discovered and listened to around the same time, so whenever I hear one of those songs, I immediately have the urge to listen to one of the other ones.
Like, anytime I hear "Poison" by Alice Cooper, I suddenly need to listen to "Unskinny Bop" by... well, Poison.

I don't really play many video games, and the ones that I do are games that I've already played a million times and/or are sports games, so I often will mute the game I'm playing and instead listen to something else, whether it be music, podcasts, Youtube videos, etc.
Anyway, so in, like, 2013-2014, I played a good bit of Banjo-Kazooie (on the Xbox 360) and the remastered version of Final Fantasy X. While playing Banjo-Kazooie, I listened to a lot of Carly Rae Jepsen's "Kiss" album, and while playing FFX, I listened to the Matt Pond album "The Lives Inside the Lines in Your Hand," so now those games and albums are linked in my mind.

If I come across Murder, She Wrote on a classic TV channel and hear the show’s theme, in my head I can hear Vince McMahon saying “coming up next, it’s Monday Night Raw! Only on USA!”
Certain pieces of classical music will always be associated with pro wrestling for me. In fourth grade we took a field trip to hear the local symphony, and one of the pieces they played was Also Sprach Zarathustra. My friend and I had no idea what it was called, but we sure recognized it! We started whispering “Flair’s theme, Flair’s theme!” Likewise, I couldn’t help but think of Randy Savage when Pomp and Circumstance played at my high school and college graduation ceremonies.

There's an awful episode of SVU where the victim is a schizophrenic woman, where most of it consists of Benson whining about the fact an ex-partner of hers chose to become a doctor instead of staying a cop, and because I first saw it while playing Pokemon Ranger I tend to associate it with that.

I run into this with Chrono Trigger. I had a Sega Genesis so I'd only ever gotten to play Chrono Trigger with my friend. Finally, in early 98 he lent me his SNES so I could play it through. I'd just gotten my first CD player for Christmas and owned 4 cds. I bought Aqua's first album. Excited to have something new to play, I played it almost constantly for a while which just so happened to coincide with playing Chrono Trigger. I have played Chrono Trigger since while listening to the game's soundtrack but often if I play Chrono Trigger it reminds me of Aqua. Similarly, certain Aqua songs bring Chrono Trigger rushing back to my mind.

There's a scene in "Simpsons Roasting On An Open Fire" during the Mall Santa training where they all go "Ho Ho Ho" for a few seconds with Homer being silent and raising his hand and the teacher addressing him...
For some reason, I always expect him to say "I forgot the text." instead of asking when they get paid as he actually does.

Reebok and Wayne's World.
It's like people only do things because they get paid, and that's just really sad.

The way that my mind works is I typically associate something with an event of where I was at when I first heard about or got familiar with something.
As an example, the first time I heard about Mighty Morphin Power Rangers was in my 2nd Grade class when they were deciding what to name the class pet gerbil, which ended up with the name Kimberly.

More soda related...
A derpy coworker saw me drinking an RC Cola once, and from that day forward, in his mind, my favorite drink was RC Cola. If he sees me drinking another soda he'll ask, "No RC today?" If we have a potluck, he will bring RC Cola and be like "I brought RC for Corey!" He's also told me multiple times about how is grandfather used to work at an RC bottling plant. This dude has made me "the RC Guy" to the degree that it's always the first thing that pops in my mind when I see it in the store. I imagine buying a 12 pack, only to look up and see that guy standing there with a smirk on his face as I'm putting it in the cart.
