Now we see if the belts are indeed vacated and put in a Tournament 1. Darby gets a new partner. Since he still is half of the team. 2. Give it to Stinger sons. They rocked. 3. Sting decides who to give his half of the titles to.

The perfect end to the perfect twilight career run.

How the match ended was perfect. The more I think about it to, the only person in AEW who really had any right to beat Sting was Darby. And it sounded like neither really wanted that match

I'm gonna probably forever be so glad that Sting got this final run where he got treated with the utmost respect, got to do some insane shit nobody thought he was capable of at his age, had a ton of amazing and fun matches, and got to be the one person in AEW with a perfect undefeated run. They could have done the usual "Old Yeller gets put down" ending that's the standard for retirements but instead we got a triumphant good defeats evil ending and that's so much more powerful and beautiful and perfect a note for Sting to wrap up on. Justice is served, Sting is one of the GOATs forever.

yeah that's exactly what drove me to make this thread, there's a bunch of last match unwritten rules that contradict each other with this match! sting 1000000% will want to lose but I could see the Bucks insisting on losing in his last match. tk would love to have Sting be the only undefeated person in AEW history but also would never go against what sting wants I bet. i have no idea how tomorrow is going to go after more thought. Saying all that, if they don't do a Flair/HBK 'I'm sorry' spot right before they BTE trigger Sting only for Sting to kick out at one then what are we doing people Instead we got "it was nice working with you", which was so heelish that at that point I wanted Sting to win more than ever. I know it goes against tradition, but I don't care. I'm glad Sting got a happy ending, especially considering that for years it looked like the neck injury was the end.

I do wonder if the initial plan was to have Darby find a new partner to give them the rub of replacing Sting. I also in the same breath wonder if they knew Darby was going to do something insane that they could realistically say Darby wasn't medically cleared and vacate the titles.

I think what I also love about the ending is that now it means any final match in the future has a much improved chance that the person retiring wins. If we really want to get into a "What's best for business" conversation, Sting's victory tonight added so much more drama and intrigue to any future retirement matches just by existing.

I love that Sting won for the fact that all of the Bucks Derangement Syndrome sufferers worldwide can't bitch about the Bucks going over.

So could be wrong but sounds like of the people Sting asked to be at the show the only 2 that didn't show up were either under full time WWE deals (Booker T and Nick Aldis) and Kevin Nash cause he felt loyalty to WWE.

I will say to start that I don’t enjoy the Bucks at all, but the heel turn by them was really smart going into this match, just to make it even cooler for Sting to go over. So, full credit to the Bucks and AEW on that.
Sting was one of my favorites growing up and seeing how his WWE run went kinda broke my heart, so his run in AEW has completely heeled that. It’s my favorite thing AEW has done with the amount of respect they showed Sting.
What a run and what a legend!

Justice is served, Sting is one of the GOATs forever. I was of the opinion that Sting should lose and they can rebuild the new division around the Bucks but as the entrance for Sting went on and the match itself went on...yeah, I can gladly say I was completely wrong and Sting and Darby winning was the right move. Not just because of the story of the match itself but because that crowd was ready, savoring to watch Sting win one more time and giving it to them felt more satisfying not just for the status of the show but for future business in Greensboro. Sometimes the obvious choice is the right one. EDIT: And I'm also someone who said when someone asked "Should AEW sign Sting?", I was one of many who said "I don't know what he'd bring" and man, I haven't so much eaten my words as had a whole buffet of them.

Don't feel so bad, even this lifelong Little Stinger doubted thr signing. Not just age but the whole neck issue was something to keep in mind. Then he took a Powerbomb from Brian Cage. And he wasn't hurt. He took the bump. Then slowly but surely the insane dives came in. Sometimes he did look his age but that's alright because every time he did the beating of his chest it was the Early/Mid 90s again. And Sting also played into it as with Orange Cassidy. So yeah, Sting proved the doubters wrong & it was fun to see. And can we take in that Sting ended hos career in the building he got made in, in WCW Territory, with the 2 guys who called some of his greatest moments in a promotion that's on Turner networks?

There's no need for him to win, especially since he has a title, plus the Bucks are on a roll right now I said this but the whole thing was perfectly booked, really. And the Bucks can do a lot with the loss, as well as this now opening up the tag division.

God, that powerbomb still lives in my head only because I remember Cage setting him up and I was thinking "Oh, here comes Darby to stop him because Sting can't surely be taking this move after every-" and then my mind ended up in a default "jaw agape" state as he was left laying. And then, as you said, that was nothing compared to him jumping off stages and platforms like he was ticking off a bucket list.

The Sting party match quickly became a highlight of the PPVs for me. Just a mad fun match in between all of the more serious ones.

That intro film with him in the Theater was TOP notch.
They need to upload that too if they haven't already.
