Seriously, though, what a sad, strange AEW run he had.
Came in with a lot of momentum as part of a tag team with Ortiz, immediately they get attached to Chris Jericho as main event talent. Get a rub by beating up the Rock 'n' Roll Express and feuding with the Young Bucks. Then they didn't win the Tag Titles when they logically should've been the team to dethrone SCU. Inner Circle goes along fine, but then the Pandemic keeps them off the show until June, and they've cooled off. Continue to do Inner Circle things, but they're no longer a priority. Feud with FTR during the Pinnacle angle, but spin their wheels after that ends. Align with Eddie Kingston in his feud with Garcia and 2.0, but then get kicked out of the Inner Circle when it becomes the JAS. Should have faced 2.0, but instead, Santana decides he'd rather be a singles guy. Does a couple of multi-man tags, then gets hurt at Blood and Guts and misses more than a year. That's when we find out about him and Ortiz not being friends anymore. Returns with Ortiz for Anarchy in the Arena III, then gets singles vignettes, wins the "feud" with Ortiz, then vanishes, never to be seen again.
I don't fault the dude for feeling he could do more in AEW as a singles guy, but it seems like the stars just weren't aligned for him. Hope things work better for him wherever he lands next.

Props to him for betting on himself but also I think he'd probably have a better career if he just stuck with teaming with Ortiz. To be blunt, I've never once looked at Mike Santana and thought "Future main eventer" Then again, I thought the same thing about Garcia and he's proven me wrong as time has gone on Maybe Mike Santana just needed Daddy Magic to play off of? ...nah, probably not.

Honestly I have zero interest in seeing a Mike Santana singles run of any kind. It’s a shame as PnP were my favourite team from the outset.

…So why are we making fun of the guy’s completely normal-sounding name? Did I miss something? It’s too normal. Like when they called Wardlow Mike on Saturday. Even mike the miz sounds weird when people say it. Absolutely nothing intimidating or interesting about it. At least with a name like Bobby, it’s just a funny juxtaposition to a big ass dude like Lashley. Or that Trump’s weird “do we love Bobby ?” Thing

Also just to be clear, PnP were supposed to win the tag titles at least once maybe twice per Ortiz where plans changed cause it was decided they were needed for Inner Circle feuds per Ortiz. I'm guessing one of those times was supposed to be winning the tag titles at the original Grand Slam. Think Dax said same thing happened with FTR when the Pinnacle was a thing.
But even after that, sounds like shortly after Grand Slam is when Santana and Ortiz started to fall out

And nothing of value was lost.
He seemed to have an incredibly high opinion of himself, but the reality is without Ortiz he was always a mid card talent.

…So why are we making fun of the guy’s completely normal-sounding name? Did I miss something? Probably just the randomness that he wanted to reinvent himself after getting hurt, and the way he did that was be the exact same guy but also now called Mike

It's like waaaaay back when 2.0 were still on the indies and Jagged suddenly changed his name to Scott Parker. Only not tongue-in-cheek and it's supposed to be a big deal.
