According to Cagematch.net, Hogan's last match before the heel turn at Bash at the Beach 1996 was on Nitro, April 15th. He defeated the Taskmaster and Arn Anderson in a handicap match. What is strange is that I don’t recall there ever being any storyline explanation for why Hogan was off TV for this nearly three-month gap. Was it ever kayfabe explained why he was gone so long before his reappearance at the Bash? I know that had that one Nitro where they drew names for the babyface team at Bash at the Beach. He wasn't present, but his name was mentioned as one of the names on that list. But other than that, he was disappeared from TV with no reason given by the announce team. Or am I missing something?

I'm pretty sure they said he was making a movie.

He'd been gone from TV for long gaps of time prior to that so it really didn't seem out of the ordinary.

Mandatory “he was playing bass with Metallica” post. Well, Load did come out during that three month gap. Coincidence...? 🧐

One does not simply announce a New World Organization without ensuring the correct paperwork is in place.

He was filming a movie, they visited him on the set and showed the clips on Nitro during that time.

It helped that the last few months of Hulkamania Hogan in WCW were absolutely horrible. I think everyone but that the biggest Hogan marks were ready for him to be gone, at least for a while.

I'm not convinced that that really odd video package about how cool Hulk is that aired a few times wasn't reverse psychology to prime the pump for a heel turn.

He was off filming the holiday classic academy award nominating Santa with Muscles featuring the acting debut of the tremendous actress Mila Kunis Actually, he was filming a movie that would eventually be called 'The Ultimate Weapon' that was supposed to also star Roddy Piper to the point where Piper was even on set and filmed a few scenes. Unfortunately, something happened and Piper left the project, causing his character to be re-cast and those scene re-shot. I love Piper and it would have been great to have him and Hogan co-starring in a movie together, but during his first decade or so of acting, Piper was notoriously difficult to deal with on-set. The one time he wasn't, when he was on his best behavior for 'They Live,' he undid his good will by being impossible to deal with on the press promotional tour.

As "Hulk" he was barely on TV. As the nWo started getting hot, he would be on TV way more, partially thanks to his movie career dying.
I also think his 2nd contract had more dates for WAY more money

I'm not convinced that that really odd video package about how cool Hulk is that aired a few times wasn't reverse psychology to prime the pump for a heel turn. I feel like WCW had the benefit there of, if he was turning heel as planned, then it works for exactly that. If he gets cold feet and doesn't do it, then I mean, they may as well show such a video package, anyway, his ego would insist on it.
