So.. what now?
I believe him that he's legit retired from in-ring, and for once I see it being something that sticks.
I think Tony will still want him to pop up from time to time, though, if Sting would want to.
Yeah, the on-screen authority figure thing is worn out and tired, but Sting is the babyface to beat all babyfaces so I sort of feel like he'd be a likeable sort as the counter to whatever heel thing the Young Bucks are doing.

He said at the scrum he doesn't want to be a manager, agent or anything like that. But it'd still be nice to see him around in some capacity. Maybe he can do guest commentary from time to time?

Does he still have time on a contract with AEW? Or was his retirement date chosen as the day it expired?

If they do want to run Sting as a counter to the Bucks, I'd say it should only be deep down the line. Let them do their run for a while and build up to the idea someone needs to be brought in to counter them on a management level, when him coming back is a big shock and can trigger a god-tier in-ring tantrum from the Bucks. For the sake of letting his moment stand, I'd leave him away for a good, long while. Whether he comes out to be there in Darby's corner for a world title match or a special guest appearance or whatever, it should be after he's had some time to enjoy an on-his-terms retirement and become osmeone the audience misses. Them using post-streak Taker on television and occasional PPVs instead of keeping him as a Wrestlemania attraction actively took away from him being a continued Mania attraction. If we see him before Winter is Coming, I think it's probably too soon.

He becomes AEW's version of Fallout's Mysterious Stranger. Just randomly descends from the rafters once or twice a year to beat up some heels and save a face from injustice. Disapears and we never see/mention him again until next time he does it

Disapears and we never see/mention him again until next time he does it .... oh my God, yes please. And just like the Phantom Stranger, he'll show up when he's least needed. "... thanks Sting, I think we had the Dark Order under control, but, uh... yeah. Thanks."

Just let him enjoy retirement, he's done enough for Wrestling.

I wouldn't mind General Manager Steve Borden.

I wouldn't mind General Manager Steve Borden. A GM that oversees the show by watching it from the rafters. Book it, Khan.

we constantly see him up in the rafters but the twist is that he rarely ever actually descends from it. he just sits up there in a lawn chair eating teddy grahams and watching the show. on occasion he drops a teddy graham down to the ring and depending on the match the teddy graham is either used as a projectile weapon or boost of energy snack.

I wouldn't mind General Manager Steve Borden. I'd go with this but more in a role like Regal had in NXT where he isn't needed in person every show (he can be mentioned obviously) but when he shows up it means shit has gotten serious.

I don't think AEW need or should ever have a General Manager. It's not for me, and it is the type of nonsense that made me stop watching WWE. Kayfabe (and IRL) wise TK is the booker and books the matches and has the announcers announce them. That is fine.
I think Sting will properly walk away from Wrestling. I could see him appearing as a talking head on vignettes for other big moments or even big main events (Ones involving Darby especially). Maybe have him go over to places and do promoting if he fancy a vacation to London or wherever

They shouldn't have a HoF until the company is at least a decade old but once they do I'm sure he'll be the first inductee.
