When everyone was worried about The Rock trying to make Cody irrelevant nobody predicted the outcome would be him making Roman irrelevant instead

Like, I haven't seen the shows myself so take my view with a pinch of salt but when I hear about Raw and Smackdown, I hear more about Rock's involvement than pretty much everyone else's outside of Cody (and, well, he got beaten and bloodied on Raw so that makes sense) when all of it just feels so mind boggling. You build your marketing for the new game and other stuff on Cody trying to finish the story, you make Roman win so many matches and come close to losing to Cody where the main crux on the feud should be Cody calling Roman out on that and finally getting that big win. Instead I'm seeing people really wanting to see Cody/Rock in a singles when neither of them are undisputed champion and Rock's become the show's Poochie where people have to keep asking where he is if he's not on screen.
There's a stat that The Rock has shown up on more shows than Roman has this year and that just feels strange when Rock's role is supposed to be another obstacle for Cody to get a fair shot at Roman.

Cody did get the crowd booing Roman loudly last night but the problem comes down to the same thing. Roman has been an absentee champ for years and people just want it to be over. Cody actually referenced this in his promo. The Rock showing up only exacerbated this.

They probably want to save something like that for the week before but you could easily have had Roman and Rock bloody Cody up with Seth runs in to make some kind of save instead of focusing on the injured dude announcing he's a commentator. People even spotted him in the background of one of the promos talking to Heyman so...what gives?

I think this, especially the angle last night, shows how lazy they got with Reigns’ booking for quite some time. When’s the last time he did an angle half as hot as this? They coasted for a long time on his appearances being sitting in a room looking serious and then cutting a promo at the end of the show.

I think it’s being booked brilliantly (and much more interestingly than if they had just went with the same Cody wins the Rumble, he and Heyman and occasionally Roman exchange promos for 10 weeks).
It’s reheated the Bloodline story back near levels that it was reaching at its apex last year, it’s created a new monster heel and entertaining as hell Rock, and it’s sowing the seeds for the eventual Rock-Roman match down the line, whether with Roman as a face or as a heel.

I guess you could argue that Rock did this instead, because Roman is the Head of the Table and doesn't need to soil his hands. But I doubt it will be presented in that way.

In kayfabe, does Roman even care if the attentions off him?? Means he doesn’t have to do shit, unless they play up his annoyance with it going forward

It says something that Rock beating Cody bloody for 5 minutes while repeating "look at you now" like a human YTMND was still more compelling than anything Roman's done in at least a year.

Shouldn't Roman be "The Final Boss"? He's the champ.

This is nowhere near the levels we hit last year thanks to Sami. Jimmmy vs Jey feels like an afterthought, Solo has gone from future main eventer to 'yeah he's there I guess'. The Rock has been carrying a lot of the promos, but he's also been eating up 40 minutes of a 2 hour show with said promos. Finally, Roman who was integral to the Sami story last year is a footnote this year even with Cody last night specifically referencing that Roman screwed him out of his dream last year. That was the clearest reason we've seen stated for Cody going after Roman since the Rock showed up and we're two weeks out. I've no doubt there are some eating this up, but many also are just fatigued and no amount of Rock promos will solve that.
It feels like there should have been a moment where Roman takes the helm, asserts himself as the head of the table. The closest we got was him asking Rock to acknowledge him, then letting Rock talk again.

There’s a thought I’ve been sitting on for a while, so I might as well drop it: I think that Hunter likes the idea of Roman’s run ending at the 40th Mania and that’s the number one reason why the Bloodline angle’s been extended to this present point. And he’s probably been feeling this way for a long while.

And Sami's in a match the fans don't want him in against Gunther for the IC title so almost everyone whose built momentum from last year has had it all gone except Cody (despite their best efforts by making him the biggest Royal Rumble goober since Macho Man tried to eliminate Yokozuna by pinning him).

That Roman/Cody segment on SmackDown just didn’t hit like the Rock segments do. They gotta do Rock vs Cody one on one at some point. That’s where the story is.

WrestleManias ending in 0s tend to have the big babyface getting the title win (Bret Hart at 10, Chris Benoit at 20, Daniel Bryan at 30), so this would follow the trend.

Yes Honestly, this feels like they are gearing up for Rock vs Cody rather than Reigns vs Cody.
It is Rock getting slapped, Rock threatening Mama Rhodes, Rock beating Cody to a pulp. Reigns is now the sidekick.

I mean, 30 wasn't intentionally that way. Unless they did think Batista would fill that spot.

Roman should have known that he had to step up and show absolutely no weakness on the mic in this program, otherwise he was going to be chewed up by The Rock. Dude hasn't done that, he's kept everything the same and now feels irrelevant.

It’s a guy who got big within the wrestling bubble doing the thing he’s done for the last three and a half years, against a legit Hollywood movie star doing the freshest act he’s done in over two decades. Of course Reigns has gotten overshadowed.

I’m a casual, so not a regular week to week watcher. I never got tired of Roman Reigns. Even when he retained the title last year, I was fine with it because as a character I thought he was great.
With that said, not only has Rock overshadowed him, but has made him look a lot less cool. Some are stating it’s by design, but I don’t think so. Making Roman look less cool is going to destroy the storyline if the intention is face Roman against heel Rock. Heel Rock will get cheered over him, easily. They have to make Roman look more bad ass here or it’s going to hurt whatever follow up story they have. Rock as a face and Roman as a heel would work but no chance they can turn Rock face again after what he did to Cody. I mean they could but it wouldn’t make sense.
