Well...the good is that I thought they could crack 1 mil from Mercedes, and they did.
Not so good being that people really didn't stick with the show much after. I think they did the right thing putting her on first, but I thought more would stick around.
Next week will interesting.

They say that a phoenix will always rise from its ashes, and some may believe AEW to be such. A majestic, fiery bird whose ebbs and flows are merely the cycle of life, never truly gone and always awaiting its moment to brilliantly rekindle its smouldering embers and rise in majesty once more. If you find comfort in these colds months in doing so, then I laugh at you. For AEW is not a brilliant phoenix, grand in its majesty. It is a trash fire encircled by the destitute and the barren in need of warmth. It burns ever on and rekindles only by another squirt of gasoline, another torn-up tabloid rag thrown atop its ashes and lit anew by a novelty lighter in the shape of a shotgun. You shall not find greatness underneath the pile of soot that looms over it. There is no egg awaiting rebirth, and one day when the kindling runs out and the lighter's fuel is done, there shall be no grand reignition, and you had best `pray spring fast approaches before that warmth is spent, lest you freeze in the remnants of winter and wager your life on the rebirth of what was doomed from its very inception.

Reads like a description box in a 90s X-Men comic. 10/10 no notes.

I don't care about ratings as long as I enjoy the show (which I did) but it can't be good that they're capable of getting that million for that one segment but can't maintain it. Or even close to maintaining it.
I don't really know what else they could be doing to appeal to a wrestling fan

So people tuned in for Mercedes but the retention was awful, worse than usual, and that’s with Ospreay and Okada on the show too.

I wonder if this will lead to an end of the “subtle” hints at debuting stars? If they flat out announced “Mercedes Mone debuts next week!” after weeks of promo and hype videos, would that make a difference? They obviously went for the CM Punk word of mouth hype that absolutely worked, but lightning doesn’t strike twice.

But putting your World Title Match on second was weird?

It’s just that (aside from Ospreay and Jay/Darby) people kept leaving in the other segments.

1: I'd like to know why there isn't a ratings thread for the recent NXT, Just curious.
2: I called this in the previous ratings thread and was dismissed thoroughly.
The talent isn't the issue. They are at their peak, imaginary higher numbers are never happening. WWE has the lion's share of active wrestling fans.
3: I await a single reason as to why these threads exist other than to cause arguments.

That fall off for the main is a bummer, especially because I enjoyed willow vs rhio once I tuned in. Hope that doesn't limit the women's division going forward

I like Willow a lot, Riho as well, but the match was just something kinda mentioned in passing last week and it's two people who just kinda come and go in Riho's case or who appear mostly on the B/C show in Willow's. It was a great match, but it's not something that's gonna cause people to stick around.
But that's the thing. You can't be scared by a low rating or a low quarter. If you have the talent and you believe in the talent, you have to build them to the point where they CAN main event and it's not a weird thing. Someone like Toni, Shida, Britt, maybe Rosa, who've been presented as important, but you need to make more women in that same category, and hopefully Mercedes coming in is the first step in getting more women to that higher level of presentation.

Wonder how it would have done if they advertised Mone directly.
I don’t get this wink nod advertising they do.

Wonder how it would have done if they advertised Mone directly. I don’t get this wink nod advertising they do. Eh, I think the strong opening shows that most people got it. Could they have done even more by explicitly pre-announcing Mone, quite possibly, but a 1m opening is still above their usual ceiling. Now, I would however have been tempted to do more with the opening segment to make it clear she'd be seen later in the show (say she'll be at ringside for the main event to back up Riho against Stokely or something), but that's hindsight admittedly.

I don't get the argument for wondering how the show would have done if they advertised Mone directly when she drew over a million viewers, like maybe 1.2 Million? It normally doesn't boon over the million mark, she did what was asked of her
The show's trend seems to be no matter what happens, sometimes barring the overrun, the main event does lesser viewers. I would wonder how much something like Family Guy is hurting the last two quarters because Dynamite's last two mains have done lower than their usual and those two weeks, Family Guy's been directly competing against it and it's a draw of a show despite itself.
I don't even know if card re-arrangement would change this much, this is just a pattern AEW seems like it needs to push through. But then again, it's important to not take a ton of stock into Nielson numbers, as was said in the last way too big ratings thread lol

She's the new Demo God of AEW.
They better book her like Drew McIntyre and give her multiple segments over the show. Run it up.

Maybe start with the title match and keep them waiting on Mercedes? I dunno, hindsight is everything and all that, it is what it is.

She was never the greatest talker and she’s not exactly the most likeable character and I could see people getting mighty sick of her if she’s all over the show. Less is more sometimes.
