One of them suddenly got sick and died - kind of went downhill so quickly it wasn't even entirely clear he was as sick as he was before he was suddenly gone - and the other got hit by a car yesterday (someone who saw it happen said the person was speeding, and the dog tried to get out of the way but he had really bad arthritis and couldn't move fast enough to do so, so that's horrible) and, after us being unable to get him into a vet due to it being Sunday, died this morning. Not like completely falling apart or anything over it exactly, and both dogs were pretty old, but still feeling a bit bummed out about it and kind of just wanted to vent a little by mentioning it.

That's gonna make for a real good country song!
(Sorry for your losses. Hope they catch the driver and lock them up!)

I'm sorry, but what was the dog doing outside by itself?

I'm sorry, but what was the dog doing outside by itself? He was a very large dog - almost assuredly probably smashed in the front of the car that hit him - so having him inside wasn't an option and we have a very large yard (like a couple acres) not directly by the road so it's generally fine. The only reason he was out that far is because some wild dogs have been running around the past couple days and he followed them.

I am so sorry for your losses. Last year, we lost 2 of our boys exactly 3 weeks apart. Our 12 and a half year old sheltie had kidney failure over the weekend and we had to put him down that Monday. Our greyhound turned 16 the next day, then we lost him on the Monday a few weeks later. We knew he didn't have a lot of time because his long legs had a lot of miles on them and were getting pretty weak, but we think he had a stroke or something. Fine one day, gone the next.
It will be a year for the Sheltie this Wednesday. I'm still not even close to "over it." Miss those damn dogs so much. Thankfully, we also have 2 labs, a black and a chocolate, that are only 5 and 3 so they helped us through. Then we saw a lab/pit mix at a shelter with a horrible ear infection and was told they weren't treating him for it because he was scheduled to be euthanized later that week. I took him home and named him Winston. Losing our boys saved his life.

Not much I can say that won't sound trite given the circumstances but I hate that that's happened. From my conversations with you you deserve better and at least you were there to comfort them in the end.

I'm so sad and sorry for your losses, and of course to Lizuka and his lovely dogs to,I always break down reading about the loss of our animal friends and doggies, I lost my Tibetan terrior Monty two years back who I still more everyday but I have a new friend in my greyhound called Brett but nothing can ever replace our lost canine friends ever. So sad to read and for your losses
