No, I think the big spots worked in the tlc days because there's a semblance of strategy that comes from working in pairs. Lots of singles wrestlers having a lay down outside due to moves that would usually struggle to get a 2 count is crap. Even more so if they don't keep the pace up so you have time to dwell of the dumbness. There's no reason to throw yourself through a table, at least in a tag there's an idea that your partner can benefit from you sacrificing yourself. I've struggled to articulate why I can't get into the multi-man singles ladder matches as opposed to tag ones and I think you've nailed it. I have two interrelated problems with the multi-man ladder matches of today on top of this: - They all blur together, between the number of participants and the amount of similar spots. I always enjoy while watching, but I've never wanted to go back to one again. - The matches tend to have "guys who do ladder match spots" and "guys who win," and it annoys me when these categories are separate. A "specialist" in a match type should actually win the match type, and the way multi-man ladder matches will have spectacular or novelty midcarders doing the bulk of the impressive work while a main eventer or upper midcarder wins at the end contributes to how unmemorable I find them while also making everything the midcarders contribute feel meaningless.

I don't think I'll ever forget the moment where William Regal and Dave Taylor were put into a tag team ladder match where their bit was "They're rough and tough...but afraid of heights" which was all good fun until Regal did a bump off the ladder and hit his head on the bottom rope and for a solid few seconds I thought he'd broken his neck and I'd witnessed a man die.
Anyway...yeah, spotfests are fun.

I use to love the crazy spot fests.
Admittedly, the older I get, the more I appreciate the storytelling and “grounded” ones. But tbf, and like many have stated, there’s room for both.
Some ladder match Andrade and what’s his face had months ago on AEW was pretty grounded and sound in what they were doing.
