To be in his spot against Roman? I think MJF or Hangman would have been good in the terms of being a Cena type star for the company, but Mox would have been the most entertaining story. Imagine him and Seth vs Roman and the Rock 🔥🔥🔥

For me personally, Kenny Omega. He would have got me back into the product more than just watching clips here and there.
However, I think Cody really is the right guy in this spot, based on his history with the company, helping with the creation of All In and AEW, but also he really fits the WWE 'style'.

Cody was a WWE character trapped in the AEW bubble. It was very obvious, and likely one of the reasons why he was booed there. No one else could have made this transition as seamlessly.

At the time Cody jumped? Kenny, easily. Right now, probably still Kenny or MJF.

Roman running scared of a returning Mox would have been a great storyline. If only.

Cody "finishing the story" and going after the current incarnation of the one belt his dad never won is a much more interesting idea to me than "The former Shield members feud yet again, but Roman is the heel this time."
Cody is right place, right time.

Literally nobody could have slotted in better than Cody. Kenny would work better matches, sure, but Cody's 'prodigal son return' vibes had him instantly on top in a way that nothing could have matched. Mox is great and he's doing amazing work, but I think if he came back as Dean Ambrose again he'd lose a little something.

I don't think anyone from AEW would be as over as Cody is now. Mox would get a great return pop for being recognizable, but otherwise I'm not convinced that most of WWE's audience would know who Omega or MJF or Adam Page are. I don't see Moxley headlining back to back Wrestlemanias and becoming the face of the company, at all, should they have switched positions. A feud with Roman, sure. But it would have been as important or memorable as any other feud he has had the last 3 years, in my opinion.
Even inside WWE, I just don't think anyone would have gotten over on the same level as Cody. He's not my favorite by a mile, but my wife and I are going to a show tomorrow night that she wanted to go to solely because of Cody. Couldn't imagine this 2 years ago.

Punk or MJF. And one of them is already in WWE.
That's it.

Cody "finishing the story" and going after the current incarnation of the one belt his dad never won is a much more interesting idea to me than "The former Shield members feud yet again, but Roman is the heel this time." Cody is right place, right time. If he jumped a year earlier or maybe even a year later I think he probably doesn't get to the same level he does. It really feels like a perfectly timed lighting in a bottle moment that would be hard to recapture. Even the pec injury which he obviously wouldn't have chosen to happen kinda worked in his favor in the long run and made him more over. I had decently high hopes for him but they were more along the lines of "he'll be one of the top 5-10 stars in the company and probably get a world title reign at some point." I didn't think he'd become the top babyface in wrestling's biggest boom in 20 years, win 2 Rumbles in a row, main event 2 Manias in a row, send Brock packing and be getting cheered over The Rock. If he beats Roman he could retire that night, never wrestle again and he'd still have done enough in this 2 year run to be right near the top of top babyface stars in company history. He's far exceeded my and I assume most people's expectations.

Like apparently it was a hell of a fight to get "Kingdom" as his theme song in WWE but they eventually relented. Say what you will about the song, but in a sea where most everyone comes out to horrible, indistinct def rebel songs, it stands out from the crowd. Really gives the idea that the guy is something special.

imo, it would have to have been another ex wwe guy. Cody's "spot" thrives on a redemption story arc imo.
