Yeah this is a rant, but also an honest question.
Reading about Ghostbusters and how some it wasn’t funny enough-excuse me, but the world as they knew it almost came to an end. Someone felt it needed more of Podcast in it. (Seriously?) but I digress. Also what few commercials I see now are all trying to be humorous, from talking about poop to whatever it seems like I hear more people saying “life is tough and if I don’t laugh I’ll cry” Like it’s the worst thing on earth.
Humor is subjective, but does it seem to anyone else, that fewer people want to treat things seriously because they can’t take it?
Perhaps it’s my age (49) but I used to want to be a comedian-now they’re everywhere and it’s annoying to me.
But seriously, folks-what do you think?

Not everything has to be funny, but yes, the latest entry in a series of comedy movies should be funny and judged on such. Humor is also one of the most subjective things on Earth, so maybe the Ghostbusters is hilarious for some people while not funny enough for others.

I like humor, but it has to be good humor.
I can watch the yoiks and away scene from Robin Hood Daffy a hundred times and still laugh everytime.

As a little kid I didn't realize the Ghostbusters movies were supposed to be comedies.
I took them seriously as horror/sci-fi Movies.
Same as with the 1960s Batman series which I didn't realize was a campy sitcom
There's a time and place for comedy and having a memorable commercials can help products stand out more.
Having comedy in a laxative or Viagra commercial is one thing, I wouldn't expect to see jokes in a commercial for Cancer medicine or raising money for starving children or something like that.

Ghostbusters was always a comedy. If anything, why does everything have to be serious and dramatic?

Ghostbusters was always a comedy. If anything, why does everything have to be serious and dramatic? On that note, I'm kind of over Movie trailers featuring slowed down, "intense" versions of well known songs to sell how extreme the movie is supposed to be. I don't even watch TV or go to the Cinema that often and I've noticed this trend, I can only imagine how wide spread it is

We can call it the "songs made specifically for a movie trailer where the trailer is better than the movie it's advertising" genre.

It's like trying to take something that's friendly, iconic, and light hearted and trying to turn it more dark and edgy and it sucks more times than not.

Over the years, I haven't recommended comedy movies to other people because comedy is a very subjective taste. What one may find funny another person might not. Sometimes even crude and toilet humor might be funny, but other times it may be forced. So when someone asks me about a comedy I have watched, I am like, "It's up to you if you want to see it. What do you find funny?"

The original Ghostbusters wasn't even LOL funny. It was more dry and sardonic, so where are people getting that Ghostbusters is supposed to be so damn funny?

I subscribe to the George Carlin theory of comedy, you can joke about anything. Do you need to or should you? No. I wouldn't expect to be busting a gut at an ad for some Alzheimer's disease medication.
I'll say one thing, when things try to be serious, a lot of times it ends up being unintentionally hilarious.

The thing is the first two Ghostbusters movies were comedy movies first and foremost, while the new Ghostbusters movies are not – they are family adventure movies that have comedic moments. Humor is also one of the most subjective things on Earth, so maybe the Ghostbusters is hilarious for some people while not funny enough for others. Case in point, I have a friend who laughed at the first Hangover movie so hard he genuinely thought he was having a heart attack (he had actually just strained his diaphragm). I couldn't even so much as raise a smile during the same movie.
