I hope it really upsets Vince. Everything you tried to get rid of is what's bringing them back. The problem was you. He will have a stroke when they say hospital instead of local medical facility

I think "sports entertainment" has its place as a label, but it should definitely be kind of a supplement thing instead of being CTRL+H'ed over wrestling. the new WWE outro specifically uses the term: "sports and entertainment", oddly enough.

I actually never really had a problem with sports entertainment because it is sport and live theater, but so is pro wrestling
What I hated was is Vince's thinking and forcing others to get rid of the words and history of pro wrestling especially within his own company. Like yelling at announcers fir saying wrestler instad of superstar, I get branding, but both are perfectly fine to use.
Whatever I've already thought spent to much time talking about Vince this weekend.

I think the only branding I liked was WWE Superstar as it just made the guys feel bigger than life. But at the end of the day, they’re wrestlers and using that term shouldn’t be banned.
WWE has always been the biggest WRESTLING promotion of the planet and I’m glad they’re not hiding from that anymore.

Now can we dump 'WWE Universe'? Judging by how many times I heard Graves say it this weekend, no.

Now can we dump 'WWE Universe'? Don't stop there, bin off all the WWE buzzwords and catchphrases.

“Sports Entertainment” is fine when promoters apply it to the pyro, music, guest stars, angles, interviews, costumes and presentation. Teofimo Lopez coming out with a circus entrance is sports entertainment to me. But yeah, the wrestlers saying shit like “I’m going to sports entertain” was pretty facepalm inducing. They can still use it though, don’t go nuts and ban it.

I hate to be "that guy" but I've been hearing the word "wrestling" being used on WWE programming for like ten years now. It's just slightly more overt now, but I don't think it's as big of a deal as it used to be.

Yeah, they were still saying wrestler and wrestling even under Vince, just not as often as they are now.

It’s funny how much of Vince’s sports entertainment rebranding and desire to make it big on Wall Street and Hollywood was partly due to Phil Donahue and the media holding his feet to the fire for steroid distribution and the skeevy sex stuff that Vince was covering up. Because before that Vince the babyface commentator is all “Bret Hart is the greatest technical wrestler, look at that headlock takedown, arm drag nicely done” every week. Then this next generation of talent, fans and promoters come along who don’t have the snooty view of “ew, wrestling is so low rent” or at least not as much. The dude literally antiquated himself.

Cool, but I never really thought “sports entertainment” Was a stupid taboo term. I associated it with WWE’s style

I mean it had already been happening but this makes me feel like HHH taking things back to NXT black an Gold where what happens in the ring was prioritized very strongly over Vinces sports entertainment etc.
But the roles are reversed now with NXT now being more about the sports entertainment aspects.

Just re-watched the Mania main event. Literally the last 2 things you hear on the live broadcast before the recap video are Graves saying "Pro wrestling is back" and Pat saying "Pro wrestling is beautiful" so yeah, they couldn't be hammering that home anymore then they did I hate to be "that guy" but I've been hearing the word "wrestling" being used on WWE programming for like ten years now. It's just slightly more overt now, but I don't think it's as big of a deal as it used to be. They have, but it's been being used in that time by people trying to be rebellious. It was always treated as "I'm not supposed to say this, but I'm going to anyways" whereas now it's being full force pushed as what WWE is. WWE is professional wrestling. The WWE Superstars are professional wrestlers. That is a very distinct difference in their marketing and approach to the business then what's been going on the past 20 years.

Wasn't 'Sports Entertainment' used so the could skirt laws? Kind of. It was definitely used to get states to stop regulating wrestling via state athletic commissions by arguing it was entertainment not sport, but some states basically told him to get f***ed and it still fell under their authority regardless of what they call it.

They’ve said wrestling and wrestlers a lot, but it’s odd hearing Pro/professional wrestling said so much.
