I just saw the Barbie movie. I thought it was well-done and all, but I noticed it pretty much has a definite ending. However, you know Mattel and WB want to cash in on all the success, do you think they'll go for it, and if so, what will be the plot?

They've got to make the Monopoly movie first.

Greta Gerwig doesn't want to make a sequel.
Margot Robbie doesn't want to make a sequel.
Ryan Gosling doesn't want to make a sequel.
If Warner Bros. want a sequel, they're almost certainly going to have to do it without the three main reasons the first one worked.

I see no reason for one..... so I'm sure WB is trying to think of a reason.

I see no reason for one..... so I'm sure WB is trying to think of a reason. The fact that it performed as well as it did at the box office gives them an incentive to shoot for a sequel, if not a franchise.

If they wanted to spin it off with Ken (or maybe another character?), I could see that.... but a straight sequel makes zero sense from a story POV.

Greta Gerwig said like a month ago that’s she’s down for a sequel if she comes up with a good idea for it.

That she'd drained herself creatively but might come back to it in a few years and have something. Just right now, no.

I'd be interested if they did what they failed to do in the first movie and use Mattel IPs rather than imply that Mattel = only Barbie.

Yeah, she pretty much always said that. That she'd drained herself creatively but might come back to it in a few years and have something. Just right now, no. And that's really the catch, isn't it? Are Mattel and Warner Bros. going to be content to wait an indefinite amount of time for Gerwig to find inspiration, if she ever does? Well, when the guy calling the shots is David Zaslav, you can probably presume the answer is no.

It made too much money to not have one.

Can't we just make the next Toy Story all about Barbie instead?

It made one and a half billion dollars. Yes there will be a sequel. There will be 10 of them.

In the sequel Barbara gets a new hat, and is ruthlessly pursued by a Waylon Smithers-like collector.
