So in 2024 he was outed as a step below Hitler, 2022 he was outed as a sex pest (but not like what we know today). I feel like 2019 is when the Ashley Massaro stuff came out people started really hating on him. Before that he was respected for his contributions to wrestling even though we didn’t like him as a booker My mom hated him as the dweeb commentator in the 70s.

I've hated him since he put Melanie Pillman on TV immediately after Brian's death to try and make her say things that could be used against her in any lawsuit.

I guess he was always hated by some, the skeletons coming out and the rise of other promotions made many talent say "f***it I don't need you"

For me, it was around the whole Invasion angle started to become more of a McMahon vs McMahon family feud or maybe a little earlier with the whole Vince having Trish strip and bark like a dog thing.

I would probably say that the true hate began for me when it became clear that his father's crew had been the ones who made the babyfaces shine and that Vince himself couldn't draft a babyface character to save his life. So, about the early 1990s.

I feel like it was always common knowledge Vince was a total piece of shit, it just became less and less tolerable. Have a nice day came out in 1999 and Mick flat out calls Vince a mix between Satan and a hell of a guy. Which how most people seemed to see him.

In the late 90s the dirt sheet people knew the real Vince. I started hating Vince around maybe 04 or so. Had tons of reasons to do so before but I was a teen and didn't really get his consciously evil actions until later. The entire Owen debacle, the Melanie Pillman interview, the Costas interview, the Snuka and Lawler allegations that weren't exactly common knowledge before message boards sharing information. And everything he's done the last 20 years has been comically evil. It's funny to read on here even up until the last 2 years where Vince was still kind of liked for being so memeable. I never understood it. I'll stop short of wishing bad things on him, but only out of adhering to the rules here because he doesn't deserve lenience.

Yeah, to be honest, I think there's always been Vince hate. Even at WWF's peak popularity, there have always been a ton of detractors. 80's it was because he monopolized wrestling, Attitude Era because he was promoting such a racy product.

I've never hated him, and I still don't hate him. At the same time I do feel he should pay for his transgressions. I just try to remember the good and funny things he's given me over the years. I don't have time to have hate in my heart for people. But I also don't blame anyone who does.

As far as show related stuff goes, I was irritated when McMahon family drama kept overshadowing the wrestlers. I was only a fan for a little over a year during Wrestlemania 2000, but I kept thinking, "isn't this supposed to be about the wrestlers?".
As far as IRL stuff, and not being aware of his alleged (and very likely) crimes at the time aside from the steroid trial, I started to hate McMahon after that interview on HBO when he knocked the papers out of the interviewer's hand. That's when it became clear to me that he was more than an occasionally tough businessman, and that he might be the scumbag some were saying he was.

I think there was always a certain degree of Vince hate, from what he had done to the territories to Rita Chatterton, the ring boys scandal, him covering up Nancy Argentino's murder, and the Owen Hart tragedy. What pushed it into the mainstream (besides social media, obviously), was sort of a death of a thousand cuts: from Ashley Massaro's tragic death resurfacing her horrific assault, MeToo/SpeakingOut resurfacing Rita Chatterton, not to mention Dark Side of the Ring resurfacing so much other shit the WWE had buried for decades.
Now, I am not so naive as to believe all of this got to the causal fans, but the sex trafficking case made national news, so I am also not so convinced he still holds significant sway over those who aren't "terminally online". If CM Punk can get some boos in AEW for a scuffle with Jack Perry, I think it's fair to say Vince's new shit might have killed the bowing and all that.
