Keep seeing people i know that sold off most of their DVDS 6 years ago "Cause why do I need them I can stream everything cheap". Now seeing how stuff gets cycled off streaming and rebuying stuff they sold for a buck and paying 20 bucks. "Yea wasn't bright idea to sell that Airheads Blu Ray for 2 bucks huh Donnie?" Which is exactly why I still have all my DVDs, even DVD-R's of stuff that never made it past VHS. Because what happens if I wanna watch something that I heard was on Peacock or HBO Max or whatever other streaming service, but oh no, they lost the rights to it and it's nowhere to be found anywhere else? Or what happens if my Internet connection shits itself for a few days and I can't stream anything?
An odd little niche that has emerged recently is for the DVD/Blu-ray versions of originals from places like Netflix and Hulu. One might ask, “Why would anyone want this? I mean it was literally made for Netflix.” Except despite being original programming these projects are not immune from being removed from these platforms when their popularity dies down, a star from the project gets CANCELLED, or the platform just wants to rotate it out for something else.

I've always had a big physical media collection. And now that DVDS and blu rays are cheap used it grows every week. Where I live it isnt unusual for the internet to go out and be out hours at a time. Matter of fact 2 years ago it was out for almost a month. But if net is out and hell even power is out I got a portable DVD player with a screen. Go sit on porch watch a movie. And you got situations like what happened with Community streaming, there is an episdoe missing. But it is on my dvds.

My buddy I ride to most indie shows with is in an area with not good iinternet. So when he wanted to see that newer Predator film PREY. He had to get someone he works with to download it and burn it to a disc. Now it seems when he gets this friend to make him a dvd-r of a film that is streaming only, with a week a physical release is announced.

And there's why I have the first two seasons of Stranger Things on Blu-ray. Still waiting for Target to release the third season, unless I missed it at some point.

That Target exclusive ST season 1 blu /dvd set must have been massively produced. For at least a year local Dirt Cheap, closeout chain store in the deep south, had 2 buggys full of copies. Started at 8 bucks and by the end they wanted 2 bucks. I bought 10 when they were 2 bucks and over the years sold off or gave away all but one copy. Never in person seen season 2 on dvd or blu ray.

Yes, that one was definitely overproduced. Resellers were selling them wholesale on eBay at one point for some crazy low price like a lot of 10 for $10. In fact I just looked and it looks like some resellers are still at it years later! The first lot I saw was 22 for $75 (including shipping) so about $3.40 per item. Given that these have been dirt cheap for years now that eBayer might be sitting on those for years to come.

Our library is weeding out lots of CDs and DVDs, and I am on top of it (Employees' benefits...)
Funny thing is, some of said discards I think *I* donated!

But he wont be getting so much stuff for his wife and kids.

My library still has DVDs on shelves, but CDs, on the other hand? 👎 I will say that I have received some feedback about buying and listening to CDs even today. In the past, I bought Gwen Stefani's Christmas album on CD, and my sister was asking me why I couldn't just get in Spotify. A year and a half ago, my journalism class went to a conference in another city, and I brought my CD player with me, along with two CDs just in case for the rides up and back, or for another purpose. My teacher was surprised that I brought them with me and asked if I could just stream them. I said that I am sure that they probably aren't found on Spotify. So yes, I still prefer buying CDs.

I also still buy CDs. I particularly like to support the local punk and metal scenes by buying the bands' CDs at shows I go to. But even just in general it's a habit I've kept at since I was a kid.

only got a couple of DVDs so far this week
Got Platoon for 20p from a shop in the hard box edition with postcards, it's re-buy of something I owned but couldn't pass it up
was super excited when I found The Last Starfighter in a different shop, also for 20p, it's awesome when you find something that never had a UK release out in the wild.
couple of eBay purchases arrived - How I Won the War (German release), Johnny Got His Gun and Summertime (Criterion), these where all relatively cheap.

I love Johnny Got His Gun (the book and the movie). It’s probably been over 20 years since I enjoyed either, but the movie was one of the first DVD imports I ever bought (along with Cannibal Holocaust).

I still love the story that it took forever for Johnny Got His Gun to get a DVD release for the sole reason that Metallica forgot they owned the rights to it.

Anyone have this Quentin Tarantino Box Set? I’ve always enjoyed his movies, but you’d never get that idea looking at my collection. His only movie I had handy was a DVD of Death Proof that someone sent me by accident. So I decided to rectify this and got a slightly used edition of the above box set that was just delivered minutes ago. I’ve been on a Troma kick, but after watching Class of Nuke 'Em High Part 3: The Good, the Bad and the Subhumanoid (1994), I’m going to dive into this set

Also if you are coming to BIW in July,13th,let me know. Will have you, gratis, a set of the MCW tv show on dvd.

I do have that Tarentino set. It is nice but really is for the hardcore QT fans. Mostly cause the individual releases cheap used on DVD or blu with some looking.

I already re-watched Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction. I must have seen both dozens of times, but it’s been years and this go around Reservoir Dogs was an easier watch. I think the runtimes may be a factor because RD seemed to go by so quick. With PF you can’t help but notice it’s a longer movie. Also, I’ve probably watched PF more over the years. 10/10 for both of course

some DVDs I picked up
Thursday I got an whole bunch of Long running British sit-com Last of the Summer Wine, this was 10 for £1 and each one had 2 series in each (I think I lost one on the way home boooo).
some stuff I picked up same day for 20p included Badlands and Ballad of Cable Hogue and Shane plus some general other stuff
I also have a cheap place that resurfaces discs for a donation so got this some stuff I had lying around that had scratches repaired like Major League, The Cat and the Canery (Bob Hope version) and Irrevsersible.
Today I hit the carboot sales (flea market), some of my best buys includes a TV Westerns Collection (57 episodes), Pink Floyd Live at Pompeii and The Wall, The Name of The Rose, Dracula Has Risen From the Grave, Dr. Phibes Rises Again, D.O.A. (Dennis Quaid version), The Changeling, Come and See (This is a Korean release but as English subtitles), Child's Play and Cactus Jack (Kirk and Schwarzenegger rather then bang bang), these where all different prices with spending no more then 50p.
