Rightfully deserved!!! We saw his potential with the Melo team, we saw him rise up and now he's become champion. He's only 29 too.
Future WWE/World Champion.

I am SHOCKED that HHH didn't make a personal decision and just throw him on the main roster immediately. Trick seems like the type of guy he would've made an exception for and gave him a title within a few months. He was gonna have a W either way and he's an exciting champion!

He's gotta put in some good matches without Ilja, then he can look at the main roster.

Glad he's got it but I'm hoping it's not really a very long reign. Been awhile since NXT's had a short title run and he doesn't really seem like he's skilled enough yet to carry the brand longterm.

He's gotta put in some good matches without Ilja, then he can look at the main roster. That is my thought. The real actual test begins now...because Ilja is one of those that is great at masking others weakness but what is he gonna bring without Ilja there because usually from what I have seen people were not all that impressed.

The right call and I'm glad they're showing patience and not calling him up just yet. He's already improved by leaps and bounds, but give him at least another 6 months.

April’s just the month for beloved babyfaces finally finishing their stories and winning titles. All we need is for the TNA Champion to finish his story and win the belt too and we got the grand slam. WWE. AEW. NXT. TNA.

I personally enjoyed the Stand and Deliver match he had with Carmelo as well as his performance in Deadline. That being said, YEAH, he needs time to improve at NXT before he goes onto TV (Netflix from next year).

I'm of two minds about it...
1. I don't know if you'd put the brand's top title on a guy that's still learning. He's quite clunky in the ring, and looks lost at times.
Buuuut
2. I can see why they did it. He's over like rover, and has massive amounts of charisma. And in wrestling sometimes that's all you need, just look at someone like Sid.
And buuuuuut
I'm happy for him, and happy for his fans that got the moment even if I don't think it was the right fit. Hopefully he can prove me wrong, show he can carry a match without someone leading him, and have a strong reign.

Me, being insanely tired (or very dim) forgot tonight was NXT so I ended up watching the highlights for this.
Near tears at the end of the match. I loved to see his reaction, and the crowd was the wildest I've ever seen that building.
Trick is going to have a tough road ahead, along with some criticism, but that's what NXT is for. The man is a star in the making. What he does over the next year will be essential in building him up into the main-card superstar he's shown flashes of.

When he first appeared, I genuinely thought he was just a manager for Melo as they avoided using him as a wrestler for what felt like the longest time.
Dude brought it when he finally got his shot though, and he is crazy over. Good luck to him, hope he continues to improve in ring.

As long as he keeps improving, I think he’ll be a bigger star than Melo.

That was an enjoyable match. Sadly I accidentally got spoiled that he was winning but it was still a great match. I enjoyed Trick playing on the fact that Ilja had beaten him several times before by adopting some of Ilja's own moves. Often when a wrestler tries to use the other's moves it's more of a disrespect thing. Here I felt like he was trying to up his game and knew that these moves had put many including him down, so he went for it.
