My job is going to be moving to remote work in the next few weeks, by the end of summer it will be hybrid. Obviously it has a lot of advantages to it, but it also is probably going to pose certain challenges. Anyone got any advice for such a transition?

Keep the same work/sleep schedule whether you're at home or in the office. First thing I do every morning when I work is switch out of my PJs. It puts me in the "I'm working" mindset. Try to work at the same pace as you do in the office. If possible, create an office space that's simultaneously homey but also not full of things that will distract you. And make plans to see people and do things on weekends/after work because remaining social will do wonders for your mental health. If possible, use your lunch break to get away from the computer and go for a walk/ride your bike etc.; basically, don't allow yourself to become a complete shut in.

Triple your productivity by only hitting “Y”. See how “Miss Doesn’t Find You Attractive Sexually Anymore” does with that!!

Do you have the space in your home to make a workspace that you can keep separate from the rest of your home? Also agree with the advice about dressing for work to get into the mindset

Either my coffee table or kitchen table. At the very least I will wear my uniform shirt; color me paranoid, but they can use the laptop camera to monitor me. But I will probably swap the work pants for jeans, no reason to not at least be comfortable at home.

Have the equivalent to a commute, ideally exercise but something to help transition from home to work mode and back again.
Work out what music aids concentration, some say classical or lofi hip hop but weirdly trance works best for me.

In the before times, I worked about 75% of the time from home. When COVID hit, my company went fully remote. It gave me an excuse to spend some money on a nice desk, chair, etc. Basically convert one of my spare bedrooms to my real home office.
Like others have said, you need to find something that snaps you into work mode. Everyone is different on what works for them. The one I use is easy, I make a blood sacrifice to a pagan god before I logon.
I absolutely love working from home. You'll be amazed how much you save on food and gas. It is also nice to occasionally sneak in a nap if needed over lunch.
Not knowing your situation, but I would advise to spend a little money on a small desk and chair, if room is there. I couldn't believe the difference in my back by spending three or four hundred.

If you have enough space to make a room your office, do that.
If you don't, at least designate a work space, and at the end of the day your best to make it unobtrusive. Put equipment away and such.
When shit was really hitting the fan at my old job I quit putting my stuff away at the end of the day because I was logging in so often even outside of my designated hours. I didn't realize how much of a toll letting my work take over my living space was taking until I was out of that role.

If you have a cat, consider it your personal assistant.

Not sure if I would enjoy working from home.
But never had a job that I could.

I say this from too much frustrating experience: be wary of letting family/friends know.
Way too many "can you give me a hand since I know you aren't tied up with work?" situations. Or "I saw you were home so I stopped by to bullshit".

If you have a cat, consider it your personal assistant. You should even make it wear a little necktie.

A fine how do you do and piss off. They announced this afternoon we aren’t going remote after all, for the time being. Can’t make up their minds. Was looking forward to saving 80 bucks a week in gas.
